Mid-West Meet-Up Updates
Ok, Mirkah was right, the Meet-UP thread is getting pretty popular and any new information is getting burried in all the excitement. So without further ado, here is an updated list of those committed to, semi committed to and not committing but thinking of attending this shindig in July:

Maybe Maybe list:
sellout, Upstate NY
The official dates are July 16-17, but many have expressed an interest in making this a 2 night stay that would also include the 15th. This is plausible and most likely probable, so if you plan to attend the entire weekend please let me know as it will take more reservations, food and supplies.
Also, if you plan to bring a guest do so. I'm sure that many of you don't like to travel alone nor meet odd people from around the country with no back-up plan for escape. So feel free, just let me know this as well for the above reasons.
Pleape post here your arrival times at which airport, train or bus station you are coming in on so that we can arrange pick-ups for all of you.
It appears that Wolfe's Campground is the place most are wishing to have this. If you have an oppinion post it here. This is a democracy and all who plan to attend should have a say in where we have it. The other option is Prophetstown State Park.. Here you can find the information I gathered on these two sites plus canoeing down the Tippecanoe River.
Ok Folks, this is the low down on the Meet-Up. If you need to add to, subtract from the list of members coming, do it here. Want to post your vote on the campground, do it here. Oppinions on the canoeing? Do it here.

Just to complete the precision of the list. I'm from coming from Mason OH. Official midpoint between Dayton and Cincinnati. Home of Kings Island. If you are driving on I-71 and see the Eiffel Tower (yes the Eiffel Tower) that's Mason. We live close enough to Kings Island that we get fireworks every night April thru August, 10 PM sharp (11 on Friday and Saturday). I've memorized the choreography of the ka-booms so that I can ka-boom along with them. Yes, even fireworks can be boring.

Put me down as a maybe.
There is hope, but not for us.

im sorry, i should clarify a couple things:
1: which airport would you suggest i fly into? if you were visiting me in palm springs, i'd recommend you fly into Ontario, rather than Palm Springs because, although it's an hour further away, it's cheaper, larger and probably safer.
2: I assume we're meeting at Cindy's house as a group before heading out to the campgrounds. Am I right? Or are we supposed to go to the campgrounds, and people will just slowly trickle in over time?
3: Someone said something about a shuttle from the airport. Again, which airport and what's the idea--airport to Cindy's house? airport to campground? etc.
I apologize that I'm too lazy to dig through 1300+ posts to find this information.

The cheaper route, Alex, would probably be to come into Indianapolis, then take the shuttle bus to West Lafayette. We can pick you up from there. Or from Indy you can catch the short flight into Purdue University. Now if you can get a flight that comes straight into Purdu it would be alot less hassel and maybe the cheapest.
2: I assume we're meeting at Cindy's house as a group before heading out to the campgrounds. Am I right? Or are we supposed to go to the campgrounds, and people will just slowly trickle in over time?
I will already have help coming down early to get things set up, so I think the trickle process will be the best bet.
3: Someone said something about a shuttle from the airport. Again, which airport and what's the idea--airport to Cindy's house? airport to campground? etc.
There is also an Avis rental at the Purdue airport. Wait, let me check....
Ok, All, it looks as though you will have to come into Indy and then take the shuttle bus to W. Laf.
If you would like to rent a car here are the Budget Rental locations . If you get one at the Indianapolis airport the drive to Battle Ground is about 1hour and very simple to get to.

awesome, thank you. now, one more question. i never seem to find cheap airfare anywhere (huh), but my friends always brag about how they flight around for cheap. so far, the cheapest tickets i've been able to find are on orbitz for $260. anyone have any hints for me?
Spot on.

Priceline and expedia are both selling a flight on ATA for $245-$265 but it's $183 if you buy it from ata.com.
I checked the Purdue Airport page and found the following:
We no longer have airline service at LAF. The closest airport with airline service is in Indianapolis, 65 miles south of Lafayette.
Airline Reservation Information
ATA (800) 435-9282
American (800) 433-7300
AmericaWest (800) 235-9292
Continental (800) 523-3272
Delta (800) 221-1212
Frontier (800) 432-1359
Northwest (800) 225-2525
Southwest (800) 435-9792
United (800) 864-8331
USAir (800) 428-4322
i've never heard of ata.com, but i'll check them out. the cheapest i'd been able to find so far was $250, roundtrip.

Ok, I thought that I fixed this, but it's been brought to my attention that I did not: Undertow, Mike, Chicago is on the "Maybe List"
There, it's done.

updated for you, miss cindy.
is ata.com reliable? has anyone tried it and been fucked before? why are their prices a hunnert bucks less than anyone elses?
I've been on ATA a couple of times, when I went to New York we had a massive delay, but that was cause the airport was fucked and they don't serve food. otherwise its fine.
is ata.com reliable? has anyone tried it and been fucked before? why are their prices a hunnert bucks less than anyone elses?
LaGuardia to Indiannapolis, ata.com = $307
Same trip, expedia.com = $181
WTF?
"The true New Yorker secretly believes that people living anywhere else have to be, in some sense, kidding." — John Updike
la to indiana on expedia and travelocity: $260.
same trip with ata: $160.
i don't know why there's such a big difference, but hey, it's teh interweb, what can you do?
EDIT: booking my flight right now...
EDIT EDIT:
14 JUL 2005
ATA Airlines (TZ) Flight: 4402
Departs: LAX (Los Angeles) at 11:55 PM
Arrives: IND (Indianapolis) at 05:50 AM
18 JUL 2005
ATA Airlines (TZ) Flight: 4761
Departs: IND (Indianapolis) at 07:15 AM
Arrives: LAX (Los Angeles) at 09:30 AM
I should also add that with tax the ticket came out to $182. So if my prediction comes true that this get together ends up being me and karbunkle sitting on cindy's porch drinking beers alone, I'm going to be really pissed.

I don't know, that sounds kind of fun.
yeah, try not to ruin it.
yeah, try not to ruin it.
I think I can manage that.
WEll Alex, I think that you are officially the first one to get your ducks in a row. I*'m marking my calender now.
Simple Logic is Wasted on Simple Minds.
don't know what i'm going to do at five am on friday in indianapolis, but i guess i'll figure it out.
don't know what i'm going to do at five am on friday in indianapolis, but i guess i'll figure it out.
That is Indiana time, right?
Simple Logic is Wasted on Simple Minds.
i hope so. i dont think the flight should take 5 hours.
Well, I'll have Fed, Sara and Liz here so maybe we can meet in Lafayette on St Rd 26 E at the IHOP and have some breakfast.
wait, are you renting a car or shuttling down here on the bus?
If you rent, (it's super easy to get here on the interstate) you can meet us aroun 6:30 or 7. It'll be great
Simple Logic is Wasted on Simple Minds.
ill rent if i can afford it. i won't know that until it gets closer.
Ok. If you rent, then we meet for breakfast. If you shuttle then I supose that we will meet the shuttle instead. Unfortunately the shuttle doen't take you near and good breakfast joints.
Simple Logic is Wasted on Simple Minds.
wait I have to drive at what time, there better be lots of coffee involved.
Oh, You'll be here. I need you!
Simple Logic is Wasted on Simple Minds.
its a 2 hour drive, that means I gotta leave at like 5 am, the only plus side to that I guess is that I'll hopefully get out before the morning rush, fucking tri-state is sucky enough when its not rush hour. I'll just have to make a few dunken donuts stops for coffee, their coffee is always the right temperature unlike McDonalds which is way too hot. oh I also forgot for those crashing with me I have a band concert from like 7-9pm I forgot.
oh I also forgot for those crashing with me I have a band concert from like 7-9pm I forgot.
ROCK ON !
its a comunity band concert, not a rock concert, nothing exciting, I'm more sorry that they're stuck going to it.
nu-uuuh!!

I'm having a hard time finding a flight in Purdue. The best I'm finding is into Indiannapolis.
So, my question is thus: How do we get from the airport in Indiannapolis to Battle Ground (which I don't know if I noted yet, but is such an awesome name for a town)?
Unfortunately, rental isn't an option. I'm 22, therefore I'll have to give up a kidney and maybe my spleen to afford a rental. Or, at least, that's how it is here.
"The true New Yorker secretly believes that people living anywhere else have to be, in some sense, kidding." — John Updike
well depending on when your flight gets there, we can carpool. im undecided on renting a car but if there're more than a couple people who'll be riding and splitting the cost, then that'll be fine. i get to the airport around 6 am.
I thought there was a shuttle bus or something.
there is.

only a couple of times have i found souls disturbed enough to travel with me...
there is possibility a friend will come but not sure. my guess would be that he'll back out so ill be one/two

Yes, Dear, there is a way to Lafayette. i did not earlier that The flights into Purdue were no longer happening (sorry I didn't know before), but that there is a shuttle bus on the Lafayette Limo that will bring you into Lafayette. We can pick you up from there, or you can carpool with Alex if you flight is early. Don't worry, we won't strand you in Indy.

Ahhh! Don't forget me. = (
i love the blintzes (?) at IHOP. I'll definitely try and make it. Forgive me if I'm not really energetic, though. I'm sure my batteries will be low after working all day and flying all night.
ya think I'm gonna be all sunshine & spinkles? I usually need someone to kick my ass out of bed in the morning.
ya think I'm gonna be all sunshine & spinkles? I usually need someone to kick my ass out of bed in the morning.
i'm the opposite. haha.
so... do i get to do that job during this venture of ours? (the ass bed kick thing?)
sure, but if ya get too hyper in the car your getting pushed out
sure, but if ya get too hyper in the car your getting pushed out
i don't do "hyper"
i'm just not a drag.
Bigtime morning drag, so watch out.
Bigtime morning drag, so watch out.
big time morning manic freak usually up around 3 to 4 AM. gee, aren't people just going to love me
yeah, im definitely a night person. i rarely go to bed before 2 am.
mapquest blows, it goes around all these crazy roads for 30 minutes before actually getting to the freaking highway which is only 15-20 minutes away.
anything better than mapquest? im really good at finding my way around, so its not entirely a big deal, but if someone knows there is something better than mapquest, lemme know. Thanks!
