Kit!'s Profile
popcultjunkie (PCJ): your username sounds like it could be your real name, but I know it's not, what's the story behind your username?
Kit!: ooh, ok ..
Kit!: well umm, it comes from the fact I behave somewhat like a cat
Kit!: (I sleep a lot)
Kit!: but there's also a kind of 'sex kitten' element to it
Kit!: it's kind of stuck
Kit!: the exclamation mark comes from the fact someone had already taken the name 'kit' at the cult
Kit!: but had no posts. so i figured I wasn't going to get confused for them
Kit!: did you make any sense of that?
PCJ: But what about the "!" part? Question answered. You psychic?
Kit!: sometimes funny things happen that make me ask that question
PCJ: Are you from Australia or did you move there at a certain age?
Kit!: born and bred. my mother is English though.
PCJ: Every now and then I see you post in the book section. What are your reading habits?
Kit!: I used to be a pretty voracious reader all the way through school, but last year I kind of stopped.. picked up again this year -- taking the bus to work gives me a bit of time to read each day... I'll read pretty much anything that sounds interesting or that someone recommends to me, I don't really have a genre preference
Kit!: at the moment I'm reading The Thought Gang by Tibor Fischer
PCJ: I wouldn't know. I sort of stopped reading since being addicted to the Cult.
Kit!: haha
PCJ: Do you think you spend too much time at the Cult?
Kit!: probably. my justification is that I'm really only there when I'm at work, so its not stopping me from getting out and being social or anything
Kit!: But hey, I'm a mod now. Board is life!
PCJ: How's that working at for you?
Kit!: I haven't had any run-ins so far..
PCJ: It seems like many people don't seem to understand or appreciate the things you (mods) have to do.
Kit!: I think the new system is going to cure a lot of that bad blood
PCJ: Do you check everything in your section (Gen. Discussion) or do you have some sort of system to monitor things?
Kit!: I like to do a check of everything once every few days, otherwise I just check the new things. there are 3 moderators, as well as Tuffy and FJ.. so we usually catch everything.
Kit!: also people are pretty good at reporting things
PCJ: Okay..you say post from work..what kind of job is it?
Kit!: well my technical job title is 'Production Assistant', but that means a lot of things. basically I work for a company that creates digital archives for art galleries and government institutions, allowing them to keep a record of their art collections and also have a store of print ready files for publication use
Kit!: I'm in charge of the actual image-editing, so basically I spend a lot of time in photoshop
PCJ: Right on. How long have you been at it and do you enjoy it?
Kit!: I've been there just over 2 years. I have enjoyed it, but I'm starting to feel that everything is a bit routine these days - I don't feel as though I'm learning anything new
Kit!: I think its time to move on but I'm not sure exactly where i want to go just yet!
PCJ: It happens..
Kit!: Yes. Well I'm only 20, so I'm not panicking just yet
PCJ: You seem to be a favorite amongst the Cultists. What is it about you that you think makes you so likeable?
Kit!: I am? I do?
Kit!: umm
Kit!: I don't take anything too seriously, I guess. I'm not there to flame people and hold grudges. its all in good fun.
Kit!: also I'd like to hope I contribute something to discussions ...
PCJ: One of things I like from you is your honesty, which many other female Cult members seem to have. Do you think others are being true or faking it to an extent?
Kit!: I'd like to hope that people mostly are honest, though I think on the other hand, everyone has some kind of online persona that is slightly different, or perhaps a slightly exaggerated version of themselves
Kit!: of the few cultists I've met/know, they're pretty honest people, and their real personality equates pretty well with their online one
PCJ: Speaking of cultists you know...how many of them do you know in real life?
Kit!: well I think everyone knows of my affiliation with one Wesley Sonck. But a certain Lokigod is frequently found around the vicinity of our apartment, and I've also met Rohan (though he doesn't post anymore)
PCJ: Do you find it a little strange being online buddies and being real buddies or is just another venue where you can hang with them?
Kit!: not at all. like you said, just another venue. I guess its interesting because they know things about you (from posting) that perhaps you wouldn't tell someone who was your friend face to face
Kit!: its a different level of knowledge about the other person
Kit!: almost voyeuristic in a way
PCJ: Also, for those who don't you that well, do you mind speaking of your affiliation with Wes?
Kit!: what you mean .. the Cults "star couple" . haha
PCJ: so that you don't break any lonely cyber-boy's dreams..
Kit!: they'd have to be pretty lonely
PCJ: Did you find the Cult on your own or their one of your friends?
Kit!: I found out about it through Wes. He's been here a fair bit longer than I have.
Kit!: interestingly enough, I actually met Rohan before I'd ever posted at the Cult
PCJ: Cool. Describe life BC (before the Cult)..
Kit!: well, I have a confession
Kit!: i post at a few other forums anyway
Kit!: so... its not that different now
PCJ: True geek (no offense)
Kit!: it's true. at work, my boss once introduced me as "Rebecca, our female computer nerd."
Kit!: I wasn't too pleased with that at the time
Kit!: but it's probably true.
PCJ: hehe..wear it like a badge..If you ever left the Cult..why would you?
Kit!: probably because I got a new job that didn't allow me to spend 8 hours a day posting on web forums!
Kit!: but I could always come back on weekends, I guess.
Kit!: I'm addicted.
PCJ: Any valuable lessons learned from here?
Kit!: tolerance.
Kit!: haha
Kit!: and it confirms my theory that people are pretty much the same everywhere
Kit!: there are always stereotypes within a group
PCJ: How about contact amongst Cultists, outside from the boards like the mix exchanges, what have you received from others? also, how do you enjoy that kind of contact?
Kit!: I absolutely love making mix cds.. I've exchanged mixes with lofivinyl and Karbunkle
Kit!: also I sent a mix cd to Madde, and she sent back a whole box worth of American goodies!
Kit!: lots of them edible, but the packaging is so cute I cant bring myself to eat them
PCJ: Very cool.
PCJ: Also, what about the infamous calling card experiment?
Kit!: what about it exactly? so far we've left a bunch of voicemails and only spoken to one person!
Kit!: that said, jane is awesome and exactly as i imagined her to be
PCJ: I'm just saying it's like the next step beyond just reading what people type...
PCJ: another form of connecting with people
Kit!: that is true, I'm actually nervous to speak to some of these people
Kit!: its like "what if they think I'm a total idiot on the phone" type thing
Kit!: it's much more spontaneous than typing out a post.
Kit!: jane and I did a lot of giggling
PCJ: Exactly.
PCJ: You up for a little fill in the blanks (standard interview thing)?
Kit!: of course! ask anything you want.
PCJ: I first fell in love when I __________.
Kit!: invited my kindergarten boyfriend over to my house, and he wouldn't get out of the car. his brother did, so I kissed him.
PCJ: When I was a kid, my favorite thing to do was ____________.
Kit!: get out the crayons and draw!
PCJ: My favorite color is _______.
Kit!: it changes fairly often, but lately its turquoise.
PCJ: I have a fetish for _____________.
Kit!: ears. and lips.
PCJ: I see myself in five years doing ______________.
Kit!: something fabulous overseas
PCJ: My favorite thing about the Cult is ______________.
Kit!: no one holds back
PCJ: Least favorite is ___________.
Kit!: no one holds back!
PCJ: ha!
PCJ: Alright, couple more questions then we'll wrap this up.
Kit!: word
PCJ: Well, maybe more than two..Which sections of the Cult do you check the most, besides (gen. discussion)?
Kit!: music movies tv, and .. book club
Kit!: also the groups I'm a member of [Author's note: Kit! is a member of two groups I'm aware of; The Cult Zine and Aural Pleasure]
PCJ: The Writer's workshop has really taken a life of its own. Do you do any writing or review any works from there?
Kit!: I must admit, that I don't. I've read a fair few stories but never gotten around to reviewing them. I feel though I should, but posting at work makes it hard to take a big chunk of time out to read a story.
PCJ: Backtrack to the groups. Are there any members you would like to see join any of the groups you're in? Also, are there any kind of groups you wish to see happen?
Kit!: I have a few non-cult people that I'd like to see join the Cult-Zine.
Kit!: I'm really liking Aural Pleasure though, I think we have some great people in there, and the only group I would’ve wanted was a proper music discussion group, and hey - that's . . .
PCJ: Any parting thoughts?
Kit!: I know I should say something pithy and amusing here, but I'm just gonna say thank you and goodnight!
PCJ: thanks and sweet dreams!
Kit!: <3
*sidenote; to find more about groups, head [thread=13035]here[/thread], Also by my count, Kit! name-dropped 9 Cultists, Holla Back at her!
That was really brilliant!
Hands down, that was the best interview thus far. I want PCJ or Kit! to interview me.
They're both so fucking amazing.

is it me?
After reviewing the interview, I forgot to ask some questions that I should have, so if you want, then this is a little addition.
A while back origamiLips made a thread with title of [thread=14102]Go Canada! 4th best place to live in! [/thread] There is a link to an article about the United Nations' wide-ranging annual survey on human development. Australia ranks in at number 3. What makes Australia a great place live in? What are some things about your country that other people would not probably know, things that can't be found in a book or the web?
Other question;
You recently shown aspiration to take DJ courses*. Why would you want to pursue this? If you were a DJ, then how would you differ or be similar to other DJs?
*Aural Pleasure discussion
Rebecca?
This was one of my favorites because it was nice to get to know Kit!, as it confirmed my every suspicion that she was a really cool young lady.
oh yes
she's fly like da birds in da air
australia has the highest consumption rates of ecstasy, worldwide
we're number ONE
Rebecca?
yes?

Australia.
well, its pretty ideal all around isnt it? Ideal climate, great people, fairly varied landscape -- very cosmopolitan, cultural-melting pot type cities. i like the fact that australia is extremely multicultural. its like we've got the best of a lot of things from a lot of countries.. you just have to take a look through the restaurant section of the yellow pages to tell that. I like that its fairly temperate all year round, and if you live on the east coast, you're never that far from a beach.
even though we have 'big' cities, theyre never really inland. theyre mostly right on the coastline. sydney is a beautiful city, and even though its the largest in australia, i never get the feeling of being in a big, enclosed city block type space. its all very open and lots of blue sky between the buildings and lots of parks to break up the grey with a bit of green!
that being said, i think the only thing australia doesnt really have is any kind of cultural history, say as countries in europe or the UK and even asia have. we're a very young country comparitively, no centuries old monuments around here.. this isnt really a bad thing, i'm just a bit of a history buff, so i'd like to live somewhere that feels 'old' for a while, just to see the difference.
some things people might not know? how about the fact our music industry composes of much more talented people than the Vines and Jet, and we make much better beer than Fosters?
Other question;
You recently shown aspiration to take DJ courses*. Why would you want to pursue this? If you were a DJ, then how would you differ or be similar to other DJs?
I've always had a huge interest in music, and its always been a big part of my life and my development as a person. that being said however, i do not play any musical instruments or have any real desire to. but a few people have often said to me that i'd probably make a good dj (though they never said why) - i like to think i have fairly diverse taste in music, and i know what to play to get people up and dancing, because usually, its what gets me dancing too. (but i dance to a hell of a lot of things... so maybe that theory is flawed) .. ive always enjoyed constructing mixes and playlists for parties that flow like dj sets, too. who knows, maybe i'd be a terrible dj, but i think it would be fun to find out!
oh, and a shoutout to alex cassun. cos if i forgot him twice, he'd be real mad.
i'd only be mad if i cared about you, so there.
oh, my heart.
