July, July, July and I am reading
Somebody forgot to tell the weather that its July here in Ireland and I am reading Twilight by Stephanie Meyer.
Dark past, bright future, living abroad, well read. You're like the reincarnation of James Dean, hopefully with better driving skills ( Tomstrong on me, best compliment I ever got! )
Requiem for an assassin by Barry Eisler. I love a good anti hero and for the first time in donkeys years someones created an assassin without the cliches that you always tend to get.
Its not how hard ya rock, its how well ya roll.
Koontz's Velocity (this time for real - last time I couldn't get it and instead I read Odd Thomas)
I don't know what I'll read next.
I have to read Charlotte Brontë's Shirley for college, but I find it extremely boring.
Also, finishing Heart of Darkness.
Dracula, Prince of Many Faces: His Life and Times (nonfiction) by Radu R. Lorescu & Raymond T McNally... i saw a ghost hunters type show about him and thought it would be interesting... this particular book is A LOT of history facts and very little torture facts...
Next:
The Black Dahlia Files: The Mob, the Mogul, and the Murder That Transfixed Los Angeles by Don Wolfe
Then:
Murder on the Yellow Brick Road by Stuart M. Kaminsky
hmm... i should really take a look at where my interests seem to lie...
you know how some days you read, and somedays you make a mad dash about the office in search of a new typewriter? today was a typewriter.
im a few chapters into NEUROMANCER. brilliant stuff here. powerful prose.

Before starting Moby Dick a few weeks back, I heard that people either wind up loving or hating it. I was sure I would fall right into the middle; It's a classic, so it must have its perks, but it's also six-hundred pages, and I don't care much for whaling etc.
Well, now I'm about 150 pages in, and I'm seriously considering abandoning it. I can't stand it. I try to be an astute reader, so I have to pause and look up all this whale-hunting jargon.
Anyone else have any strong feelings toward this one?

i read that this summer over a couple of days. loved it. i dont know, i guess i loved all the whaling jargon. everything about that book is so perfect. ishmaels voice still stews around in my head sometimes. and ahab. but im not sure if youve met ahab yet. id stick with it if i were you. to me, its on par with some dostoevsky. but, if you dont like it now, id say theres small chance youll eventually like it. lots of digressions into the terms of whaling and just life on a whaler. for me, those worked, brought me in, but, i can see how its off putting.
um, i dont think i answered. id stick with it cause its the best book ive read in a while. maybe even a year. but, if you dont like it now, the style of the book doesnt change much. later chapters may even be more off putting to you.

Man - I really liked that book. It was quite a journey. I wish more poeple would give it a chance. It's hard to get in to and that's why I think it gets a bad rap. But well worth pushing through.

Cheeks
1. The fleshy part of either side of the face below the eye and between the nose and ear.
2. Something resembling the cheek in shape or position.
3. Either of the buttocks.
4. Impertinent boldness: had the cheek to insult his hosts.
I just finished The Book Thief, which was really great. It made me cry! That hasn't happened in a long time. I was planning on starting the next John Connolly (the name escapes me at the moment) but I picked up the wrong book heading out the door. So, that will have to be tomorrow.

That's funny...I had Lunar Park in my hands the other day at Barnes & Noble. I was all set to buy it...but then I decided to hold off, since I've read all of BEE's books except that and Glamorama, and I heard they are the two worst.
