Downtown Owl, Chuck Klosterman
Someone read Downtown Owl with me by Chuck Klosterman. I'll be picking it up through the week.
He's an incredibly awkward writer.
It's an easy, enjoyable read. Klosterman is awkward but it translates into his characters very well. I'll check back to see what you think.
Love,
Joe Tonigh
I think I'll be waiting on this one. The Cole's bookstore by my work seems to have cut half their inventory due to moving locations, so they didn't have it. I picked up some weird female serial killer book and Palahniuk's new Pygmy. So, I'll be reading those first and then picking up Klosterman's Downtown Owl. So, in like two weeks.
Or less. Haha. I will definitely be posting my thoughts on it. I love Klosterman's writing. He writes how I think. And, I'm a freaking writer. Or, aspiring at least, and I can't write like that. He has an honesty about him that I'm too scared to let out. I still censor myself in most cases, which I really shouldn't.
He's probably the only author who i'm not in any rush to read anything of his based solely on how weird he looks.
LOL! He is pretty homely looking, and he definitely knows that. He's worth checking out, though. He's pretty humorous.
I still think he grew the beard so people wouldn't think he was a lesbian.
AAAAAAAAAAHAHAHA!!
I picked this up when it first came out. And by pick-up I mean order off Amazon. It is pretty good. I like the sharp tongue of his non-fiction stuff and all-in-all it was a pretty decent first successful attempt to venture into fiction. I think Seinfeld's "it is a show about nothing" fits this book, as it is really all about characters than any interesting plot points.
Apparently a film is being made of Killing Yourself to Live.
I'll keep those in mind, but I picked up "Female Serial Killers: How and Why Women Become Monsters" by Peter Vronsky.
i bet they blame it on the penis.
If Peter Vronsky is homosexual, I could see this possibly happening somewhere in these pages. I'll keep you posted.
I didn't like Heartsick. Serial killers are boring, especially female ones trying to do men's work.
THIS IS THE HAPPIEST TALE EVER TOLD EVER.
Two blondes walked into a train track. Between the two of them, you'd think they'd--

HA--i just heard that voice resounding in my head, from the show. some made for tv documentary show that went through the gambit on female serial killers: "How and Why Women Became Monsters"
ive gone through plenty of serial killer books. i remember most vividly "bloody legacy", but really they do tend to get boring after a while. i was probably your age when i got into them. and about your age when i finished the trek through them haha
I'm a real nice guy, loyal to his family and friends, like to help old people and I play well with children, but there is a very dark side to the moon. A predilection for the psychopathic, I have a history of violence I would like to herald always as ancient history. But some guys just wont listen, just wont let go.
I've only dabbled with this kind of stuff. I picked up Columbine a couple of weeks ago by Dave Cullen and it was awesome. And I totally judged the book by its cover. Knowing me I'm not going to luck out with this a second time, as the cover looks pretty darn awesome, so I decided to grab it.
ALSO. I started reading Pygmy last night. I'll be putting that one down until I have absolutely nothing to read, because I can't farking stand how it's written.

Now that is one I do want to pick up.
As far as Killing Yourself To Love, would of made a cooler documentary than movie adaptation IMHO.
I'll probably see it years from now when I'm bored on my computer and happen to come across a torrent, and I already know I will be completely unimpressed.
yeah, pygmy can be a pain in the ass, no doubt. but it's a great fucking read. any book that can help you reexamine yourself in your life gets stars with me, no matter how utterly jarring the read proves to be. besides, it only took three chapters to get the narration down pat.
oh, and if you havent yet, pick up a copy of kiss me, judas. it can be found on amazon for ten dollars:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1596921862/officchuckpalaha/
but hurry, there are only four copies left until they reissue another edition or whatever
anyrate.. seems right up your alley for reading. gritty, and the writing is infective.

i feel you on that. i have the book on my shelf. i feel like i need to eat a pot brownie or something before i even try.

i read a short synopsis, seems like a pretty....obscure plot
