I havent ever had any gay skin friends, and I've never wore pink laces or braces. The whole "meanings" of the color of braces and laces has been lost. Some people believe that the original skins wore colors of thier favorite soccor teams. I dont know but now it doesnt even mean anything really, just what colors you prefer. I stick with red braces and white laces, and I'm not racist so if that says anything.

Anyways, yeah I listen to the 4skins... Good band. There are alot of old oi! bands like that, that never got any of the buzz they deserved... Glad to hear that someone else has at least listened to them...

Actually, come to think of it, this brings up an interesting point. If the majority of people believe "skin-heads" are neo-nazis, doesn't that mean that you are no longer actually a skin-head? I mean, it's sociology rather than true science, it's pretty subjective, there are no inherent facts only opinion.

I got into it because the scene I hung around with had a few skins always around. I got to know them and they became good friends. From thier I just got more and more interested in it and the culture.

I find this all really interesting. Because I have a bunch of friends who would fit into the "skinhead" definition of this thread, but they don't call themselves skins because they don't want the neonazi association, they're big ska fans, they wear the docs, they've got the working class jobs, they love oi! and they're fairly agressive guys, and they have the shaved heads, but they don't call themselves skinheads...they're afraid to say that they're "skinheads" because over here, skinhead=nazi.

I love ska/oi! music though, it's really good, a lot better than a lot of the newer punk spinoffs (like screamo and metalcore. I'll listen to metalcore, but I'm definitly more of a second wave ska fan)

and also, what are your thoughts, personal or as a collective, about how most the rest of us think the ideology and culture are pretty ridiculous and rate it barely a half rung above Scientology ?

in fact, the whole "agressive" nature is what I'd imagine you folk would be going for to completely and utterly make sure your house was in order before going around trying to get other people to wake up out of the drab lives. It strikes me as the nazi-movement is the one that's the more agressive, they're the ones with the voice everyone sees on TV and whatnot. To me they are just of group of dorky white boys, that were unaccepted and decide to shave there head for some sort of recognition. They probably listen to a lot of hardcore music but never knew what is was before and probably got there asses kicked alot when they were younger, and had a bad experience with someone from a different race. Skrewdriver has a Rockabilly/Rock and Roll sound. How does screwdriver explain their sound is mainly influenced by blacks i.e. Chuck Berry, Big Joe Turner who greatly influenced the "British invasion?"

No, that is not a characteristic of traditional skinheads. While skinheads tend to be a rowdy bunch, they are just a bunch of working class guys who embrace that and a certain style of dress and certain music.

I've never known a skinhead who wasn't, at heart, a violent prick.

I had a lot of skinhead friends in college. I still talk to some of them. They were a lot of fun to hang out with, but yeah, they get riled up pretty easily. None of them went looking for a fight, but they didn't avoid them either.

We used to target skinheads when i went to hardcore shows years ago, mostly because all my hardcore music friends were Jewish or Mexican. And also because the skinheads were, indeed, pricks.

My sister had a bunch of supposed skinhead friends when we were teenagers.

The only thing I really remember about them, aside from being posers, is some thing about the laces in their boots. They all wore a certain color laces, I am failing to remember if it was either white or red (one or the other). They all claimed the color of their laces signified that they were the "non-racist skinheads".

That would be the pink laces.

Incidentally, a (non?)surprising number of my college skinhead friends later turned out to be gay.

The other thing I remember was this one guy, the "older guy and hence biggest poser in the crowd of teenagers guy", always acting like he knew me from somewhere that I could not remember and every time I saw him going on about the "Custom Made Flight Jacket" he had ordered or was going to buy for Gabriel (who was about one one and a half at the time).

he never appeared with any jacket, he did at one point rip my mom off for about a grand, however. Then we never saw him again.

I only ever knew of one skinhead in high school. His name was Doug Tuttle and his pants were rolled up too high over his pantent leather looking big ass boots and he wore those jackets with a fluffy type collar, I think. All I remember about him is that he looked like Lurch. I thought he was kinda scary and he always looked like he needed to bathe so I stayed clear of him.

I think their whole belief system is pretty ridiculous. Chances are, I'll never have a reason to know any or be associated with them seeing as how I'm 1/2 Mexican.

My skinhead friends were non-racist. Or "straight edge". The shoelace thing, like you said. They were kind, goofy jokesters. Threw the biggest, safest parties in town.
Once, they stole every American flag in town, and got caught. Because you guessed it - the curtains.
In fact, the bad skinheads went to a black dance club and beat everyone with baseball bats. Men and women! So my "straight edge" friends went and found them and beat them an inch from death. And told them never to come back to town again. The bad ones left for 10 solid years.
Dated a "straight edge". He was super sweet.

I've never met a skinhead. I'm confused by the first picture on their wikipedia being this young man.
