I Know Diamonds (and colored stones)
I'm currently a Gemologist at GIA in California. It's a great job, there are a lot of interesting things to know about diamonds, grading, measurements, formation, sales, the market, security (well, only so much I can say there)... etc.
I always like sharing knowledge, so if you want info for a character who knows diamonds or colored stones, works with high end jewelry, or anything of the sort, I'm your guy.
Okay, that's all for now.
The birds have vanished into the sky,
And now the last cloud drains away.
We sit together, the mountain and me,
Until only the mountain remains.

Oooh, wow...
Well, if you ever write a sequel, I'll be all over it.

tony!!!! i am sooo considering becoming a gemologist. I'm doing art history right now, and for a while back in the summer, I was obsessed with Tiffany jewelry. I know that sounds totally ridiculous. I went to antiques Roadshow this summer in denver, and I brought a friend's item. She knew how much it was worth, and we wanted to take it to get on the show. It was a Tiffany Ring from the 50's or 60's, and it had a huge emerald in the center. Couldn't tell you the size.....anyway. Designed by the famous Jean Schlumberger. It had little diamond bees on the sides of the emerald. It was a stunning ring. Appraised at the show by Peter Schemonski at about 25-35,000. We would have gotten on the show, but you had to personally own the item you brought to get on. You had to sign a release form. blah blah blah. I forgot the company Schemonski works for....he's a director of some huge antique jewelry thing in San Fran. Very cool, and it is totally a branch of antiquities that I am looking into. Such an amazing field. We should chat about it sometime!!

Definitely.
We could do a double interview!
