Hep C
I have hep c and i'm starting a six month treatment for it today. the drugs are being shipped directly from Roche so i have to hang around to sign for them. HCV is a virtual epidemic so if anyone has any questions i'm knowledgeable, also this treatment could be sort of awful so I'll detail that here.
How long have you had it? How did you figure out you had it?
There is hope, but not for us.
i've had it for quite awhile, and since its asymptomatic, i found out when i had an hiv test that came back between zero and one, which indicated that i didn't have hiv but something was going on, so i had more blood tests and found out it was hcv, which wasn't the end, cause you can have it without it actively doing damage, so then i had my liver biopsied and found out it was active.
So what does this mean? Is this fatal? Is it curable?
So what does this mean? Is this fatal? Is it curable?
well that depends on the drugs i'm waiting for, but yeah if its active it keeps doing damage and i certainly haven't helped with all the drinking, but i'm very lucky, my viral load isn't that high and my chances for being rid of it are good, otherwise you end up having to need a liver transplant. It goes into remission, like cancer.
good luck man.

Indeed. Good luck morey.
Sorry to hear this.
you didn't get it from a dirty tattoo did you?
Kick its ass Morey.
I was vaccinated for B before I started piercing in the early '90s but C is still a bitch.
I was at a seminar in the mid '90s where the speaker asked us (as maintenance wogs)
what we would do different if we were making a repair in a home where
we knew that the occupant had AIDS.
I was the only one that got it right. "Nothing. I'm more scared of Hep and the precautions that I take against it
are well beyond what the AIDS virus can stand" (it needs a host)

As the polish say: Masturbująca się kobieta.
Ask Shadov.
Good luck man! Pulling for ya.
I know 2 people who went through the treatment. They said the side effect can be pretty awful. Hope you won't get it as bad as they did. Good luck and get well soon.

Sorry to hear that, Morey.
my flatmate has Hep D. I think i'm going to go to the doctors to ask about precautions. If anyone knows anything about it (/has it) let me know...
Sorry to hear about this Morey, hope you feel better soon.
Jeez, hang tough Morey. You always do, but just in case. Hope it works out. What's the stuff you have to inject yourself with called?
Jeez, hang tough Morey. You always do, but just in case. Hope it works out. What's the stuff you have to inject yourself with called?
Its called interferon, and its an animal protein that attacks the virus, i take in in combination with four pills a day.
and thanks Brown and everyone for your thoughts, now that i know how bad it can be i'm gonna start looking for advice online to make it more bearable. i seriously was thinking that everyone who complained were just being pussies, but not so, or i am too.

Sometimes complaining is validated. Hell, I bump my toe and complain for four hours you know?
Do you feel better after the medicine though? Or is it that the body does, but the senses don't care to say it feels better?
That sucks.
Dude, morey. I hope you get better soon. This really sucks. Get one of your friends to get you some friggin ice cream, damnit! You're sick, you deserve it.

what exactly makes you an "expert" on this topic though?
what exactly makes you an "expert" on this topic though?
eecch i'm not and i actually know very little about the treatment, i'm trying to find support group sites that aren't ignorant or related to the pharm co. i even googled pam anderson. Here's what i know so far just from my experience, and my doctor visit last thurs., i've been on this 4 pills a day one shot a week routine for seven weeks, blood drawn every 3. My bone marrow is f*cked and my white cell count is dangerous low. this is what the drugs do apparently, one knocks out your immune system while the other invades your blood and eats the virus. The Dr. would be reducing my dosage, due to the count drp, except that i'm otherwise really healthy. Whats happened with the blood indicates the drugs are working so she doesn't wanna reduce the dose unless absolutely necessary. So i feel fine and the only glitch is that i'm really succeptable to infection right now.
we are here to support you....and since you hate me you can concentarte your bad toughts on me in order to get your mind out of that shit thats happening to you. Lots of luck man and hope you are better soon.. so you can still hate me.
i'm at the halfway point in my treatment and they just took a viral load which revealed that as of now the virus is undetectable in my blood, i continue for 3 more months but its worth it and its cool when something actually works.
That sounds really good.
Do the side effects ever get easier on you? Or are they basically the same after every treatment?
its always different, i can't count on it, sometimes i feel crap right after the injection, then sometimes its the following week, and the doctors are not much help cause its relatively new and they aren't sure what causes what as far as side effects-the shot or the pills.
Thanks for the update, mate.

I don't know how I missed this back in feburary. Sorry to hear this Morey. Glad to hear things are working out. I'm rooting for everything to continue to work out for you now and the imediate future.

My dad went through that treatment, and one of my good friends is going through it now. The treatment made my dad kinda crazy (but there were outside factors, my brother was in Iraq at the time). My friend is about a month into it and he seems to be doing alright. He is on anti-depressants...i think if my dad would've taken these like recommended, things would've been alot better for him.
Best of luck, I really feel for you.
Shit, sorry to hear about this.
I don't know you at all so I don't know if you're an optimistic person or not, but think positive. Think that hopefully in the near future they'll invent some sort of wondercure and you'll be fine.
Anyway, hope it all goes well.
no the shot is what makes you sick, its like taking snake venom for snake bite i think.
not the place or the time but.....they make the anti venom from venom, but your not really taking the 'venom'.....they inject horses w/ small amounts of snake venom, then collect the antibodies from their blood and give it to humans...
hope you feel better brother....i had chemo a few years back, but it sounds like your situation is worse...i was only sick a couple days every 3 weeks....
good luck with it.

Blood Poisoning?
How did you get it, unless that's intrusive.
