What gun should I use?
I am writing a scene where I want a handgun to fire through a 1 inch plywood door and still go into the person on the other side. Is this possible? I've seen it in some movies (like Revolver by Guy Ritchie.)
What handgun do you recommend? Why?
I think as long as you go with a large calibur hang gun it should be believeable. .45 is the way i'd go.

Desert Eagle, .357, and ask McMuddle are the best answers.
Double action Smith & Wesson Model 29 .44-cal. Magnum revolver. Dirty Harry's gun.

.357 Magnum or above.
12-gauge shotgun with the barrel touching the door.
Assault rifle.

This thread completely did NOT go where I thought it was going from the title.
Give him a Magnum. S&W 500 Magnum. Oh yeah.
Check your pm folder.

Derek, Michael: PM to McMuddle sent.
Michael, Desert Eagle is too heavy and too luxurious for my character who is an old army widow.
Smartaz (Frank, if I remember correctly), can you point out a specific model? Reason being, the story I'm writing will be having illustrations. So the motive behind this post was to get an image for the gun, the story is written such that it probably could do without the name of the gun. But detailed art/illustration needs a model suggested.
Ludvig, nopes, not a rifle or a shotgun, a handgun only. The character is an old army widow who owns this gun which she has been itching to use.
Ashley, Dirty Harry's gun, yeah I could use it for pure sentimental value
Morey, I just saw LadySmith - now that looks and sounds quite cool.
JT, where did you expect this thread to go? I am curious.
Jim, I just saw the reply while I was typing this post out, thanks.
Ultimately the round is more important than the gun.
The Enhanced Penetration Round (EPR) was engineered for applications where greater penetration is a must. The EPR has greater terminal success through glass and wood. This round has the ability to penetrate heavy skin, dense bone, and then fragment once inside the softer tissue of the target. The deep penetrating characteristics of the EPR make it the ideal round for street duty officers, as well as, serious handgun hunters. This round will also fragment on any surface that would cause a lead bullet to ricochet.
If she is an army widow, which army was her husband fighting for? India, I presume? You may want to look up which hand guns that service issues their soldiers. Also, you could use a shotgun if it was a sawed off shotgun, but I don't think that is what you are after.
I also agree with McMuddle that the round used is important.

I just looked up some stuff about the Indian Army here. Here is what it says about small arms used by the Indian Army:

Somewhere more sinister...
Wow Ashley, thanks a ton for that... you kinda humble me
And yes, that is what I did yesterday, I started calling all the army brats I know to ask them what gun would their dad's buy after they retired or what gun do they even keep in their cupboards right now. I'm gonna get my replies in today or tomorrow
Nathaniel, that's too big, I'm looking for a pistol/revolver. Thanks, nevertheless.
JT, may be you should start a sinister thread with the title: What gun should I use?
Thanks to the whole lot of you. The problem is more or less solved. I'm gonna go for a .45 calibre revolver, now the exact model and image will be confirmed once I get the reply from the two fauji bacchas (hindi slang as well as literal translation for 'army kids'). Will be posting that chapter on the workshop once it's ready and later on will post the illustration once the illustrator is done with it
Jugal I'm just glad I could be of some help.

Kalaschnikov!
An old senile widow unfortunately can't keep a shotgun in her house (or a kalaschnikov for that matter).
The day I write a totally whimsical mad story (which I will soon), I promise to make an old lady use and own a shotgun, really!

I have no idea of guns at all but I do know that Mc Muddle goes to the shooting range on a regular basis so give him a shout and Im sure he could help.
