Suicide?
I'm currently writing a novel, for the first time, and it deals heavily in suicide. I've been looking around for strange cases of suicide or just plain bizarre and have found a few. I was wondering if anyone had anything, personal or factual.
P.S. I don't want to offend anyone that may have had friends or family that have attempted or committed suicide.
Ephemerality rules the world.
One of the bullies at my school got plastered and wandered through a council estate into my friend Brendans tool shed, where Brendan was working at the time. He grabbed a nailgun from his workbench and shot himself with it. According to Brendan he nailed himself to the wall but I suspect he may have exaggerated slightly.
The most interessting one I have so far is about a kid that told his girlfriend that he was going to kill himself, so she made him promise to come to school the next day. Next day he stands up in class and tells the teacher he has two things to say.
1. He loved his girlfriend.
2. He pulls out a gun and shoots himself.

My ex told me a tale from her old stomping ground in Washington state. It seems the fella took a fine wire, like a piano string, and tied it around a tree. He hopped into his truck, made a noose in the other end, slipped it over his head and floored the accelerator. Took his head cleanly off. Woulda been early to mid 1980's.
Third party info, not sure of the validity, but it's a good one.
A friend of mine who used to live in America had a friend who killed himself by covering himself in gasoline in the bath then setting himself alight. That seems pretty horrific to me, maybe people do it all the time, but I only heard that one once.
Well self-immolation is good enough for the monks so perhaps he figured it was good enough for him. Or it could just be that he was pretty fucking disturbed... I mean you ain't really in a normal frame of mind when you wanna kill yourself.
A friend of mine hung himself with a belt from his bunk bed. This doesn't sound all that odd but I have never been able to figure out the logistics of it. Unless it was a really long belt and he tied the other end of it to the bed... but then his feet would be touching the floor... but, but, but... anyone? Bloody shame cause he was a top bloke.
Hmm... well this is cheery.
...and as they both drowned the scorpion said to the frog "because it's in my nature."
Se that's what I came up with but I knew this guy really well and he talked openly about such things. That and his girlfriend never mentioned anything about it to anyone, not even one of her closest friends with whom I was also very close.
It seems the only possible conclusion apart from the fact that everything else points to a run of the mill suicide.

my cousin made like one of those cable slide things out of an ice pick. i dont know how she managed it (cause i wasnt around to watch) but she got the ice pick stuck in her chin and jumped out of her window. like... with the pick attached to the telephone wire that was attached to her house. she died
another one hung her self in the closet with a clothes hanger
and yet another (his name was johnny) got really fucked up on some kind of drug and was convinced that his wheel chair bound father was the devil and his mother was a demon and he shot them both and then himself.
The weirdest case of suicide I've ever heard of was from my mom's friend who owns a funeral home.
There was an illegal immigrant who was nannying for five kids while taking care of the kids' pets. I guess she got fed up with it and decided to kill herself, so she gathered hair from the pets, plugged her nose shut and swalled the hairball. She choked to death on it. Since she was an illegal immigrant they didn't know what to do with the body, so they kept her in the morgue for six months until they were able to send her home. The funeral director said that she started to seem like family after those six months and he was actually a little bummed when he sent her home to Mexico.
I'm sure there are cases weirder than this, but I thought it was pretty fucking bizarre.
In my hometown, a girl broke up with her boyfriend. So he went into a local diner (Waffle House) and shot himself in the stomach with a shotgun. Not really that bizarre, but it's the only suicide story I know firsthand.

i heard a similar story about a TEACHER, who killed himself in the classroom overnight.
the next day the students are sitting there, waiting for the teacher to arrive and on of the kids finds him hanging, or shot or whatever in the closet.....don't remember where i heard it, so maybe its baloney.
I have no idea if this story is true but I once heard about a guy who was left by his wife and kids because the guy was an alcoholic and beat her on regular basis. So she leaves him while he is at work an leaves a letter behind.
When he comes home and finds the letter he calls her with his cell phone after having put a noose around his neck and asks her, "You wanna hear what it sounds like when someone jumps out a window?" Then he jumps out of their kitchen window, the other end of the rope around his neck tied to the radiator.
I think, that is a pretty f*cked up thing to do.
And suddenly I reallize that my whole life was just a dream...

my sisters familiar, a 16 years old girl, jumped from 10th floor, because she was pregnant.
She but didn't die when she hited the ground, her whole body was crushed (you know, broken arms, legs, rids, demaged organs) but she was still living. when she was brought to hospital, doctors decide to unplug the live supporting system, because ther was no chance to help her, and keeping her living, would only bring her more pain.
Her mother who is living in england didn't even came for a funeral.

I've heard from several sources that my homeland of Nevada County, Ca, has the highest rate of suicide by decapitation with a chainsaw (2) in America. I admire them for their conviction.

Wow I haven't been here for a while but this is really interesting I might use some of them. Thanks.
(Lately I've been reading a lot about Kurt Cobain's suicide. His note was kind of wierd.)

PM me some time if you want to know some stuff about suicide. I used to work on a mental health unit at a pretty big hospital.
You wouldn't believe how popular hanging is. People even kill themselves with their shoe laces.
Ask away in a PM anytime.

I could believe it. I stayed on a mental health unit last year for 4 days, and I was amazed at some of the stuff that was restricted to patients. I couldn't have shoelaces, mirrors, anything with glass in it (including a small pot of lipgloss), CDs, razors...they must have had some pretty determined patients in there if someone once used the mirror of their makeup compact, or the like.
There is hope, but not for us.
In occupational therapy, the kids made these airplane things out of wood and springs to make the prop and such. One of the kids tried to stretch out the metal spring and use it as a garrote. So much for airplanes.
They make pottery and the like in OTPT, but those things need to stay in the OTPT room until you go home. And the OTPT door is locked at all times. That OTPT room has some dangerous shit in it, but that was probably the best time I had with the patients.
Far as I know, pills are the least lethal way. Guns are the most likely to kill you. Elderly white men are the most likely to successfully commit suicide, and many times it by means of guns.
Sad stuff, but holidays can be the worst times. People hang themselves with Christmas lights. Imagine coming home and finding that.
Like I said, PM away.

Jane, did you like your stay on the mental health unit? Did you make any friends? Did you have to do a verbal group where you sat in a Dayroom with the other patients and do themed activities?
Just wondering. It's neat to compare hospitals. And it is great to hear about things from the patient's perspective.
If you don't want to share here, PM me.
As always, glad you're here

good friend of mine i used to go to school with killed hisself but using the shotgun to the head method
not really original or anything except appearantly he had put on a ski cap of some sort and explained in the note that he was trying to cut down on the mess he left afterwards hoping it would catch most of the gore
always seemed a weird little afterthought to me

I liked it inasmuch as what it did for me mentally. It was a wonderful respite from a life that was falling down around my ears. There's really something to be said for taking a few days away from society and having all your meals prepared for you and being around people who have similar problems and life-views as yourself. I also liked it because I think one of the scariest things about having mental health problems is the fear of the problem itself. Staying on a ward among other people with problems helped me to confront the fact that there shouldn't be any sort of personal or social stigma associated with those types of problems, and that I'm still a good or normal person in spite of it.
I didn't make any friends. The environment wasn't really condusive to it, and I was the youngest person there at the time.
We did do the verbal group thing. It was a lot less dopey than I was expecting it to be. I wish I could remember more about it, but I guess I wasn't paying a lot of attention or don't want to remember it. The one I disliked the most is when we did sort of a "guided meditation" thing. I had to picture myself as a bird drifting high above the ocean or something. It had a very "go into your heart chakra and find your power animal" feel to it. The one I liked the best were the ones where everyone would sit in a circle and used emotion words to talk about how they were feeling. That was the first little session I ever went to, and I couldn't think of anything else, so I just said something like, "I'm feeling very overwhelmed and intimidated" and everyone was very sympathetic and kind.
There is hope, but not for us.

I've read that women are less likely to use "messy" forms of suicide because they're intrinsically more worried about what their body will look like when they're dead or the goop that other people will have to clean up.
There is hope, but not for us.
suicide groups are all over the internet. The most infamous is probably the Usenet newsgroup #alt.suicide.holiday.

A man in Britain built his own guillotine and set an alarm on it. He went to sleep with his head in the hole and when the timer went off the blade dropped so he didn't have time to wuss out. how he could have gone to sleep knowing all this i don't know, maybe he used sleeping tablets, but that's the most interesting suicide story i ever read.
