Hello all!
I have two questions.

First, can hair grow through scar tissue? Specifically, if I had a large chunk of hair pulled out of my head, would the bald spot ever re-grow hair?

Also, does anybody know about death row? What kind of cell do prisoners stay in? Do gaurds clean it out when they leave, or is there a cleaning crew? Then, right before the execution, where are they moved to, what all do they receive as far as last rights, like final meal... ect?

Just wondering. Maybe someone could help.
Thanks

So it grows back thin? Or fucked up? Or full and fine, just not how it used to grow?

Well, it grows sporatically around the spot of tissue. It's thin and sparse. It doesn't grow through the thickest of the tissue, but around it. I have a crash-and-burn scar on my elbow that's still pretty bare, and the tissue is about 6 months old. I think it helps if you don't pick the scabs, and just let it heal.

The question never occured to me.
I had to go check a couple old scars, one's 20 years old the other is is 10 years old.
I'm fairly furry so it was hard to tell until I hit some bright light on them..... and I'm backing up Levi here. An odd hair here and there but the tissue is otherwise bald.
f*ck. I had hotsauce on my hands too, and I was being soooo careful!
ouch. one of them scars is right thigh...now burning.....

edit: now my balls are on fire (the one scar is purdy damn close to them). I really hope the information about the scars is useful.

haha! Yeah thanks.

Critical thinking (hopefully unless it's actually happened to you). If you ripped a handfull of hair out of your scalp, do you think it's the skin ripping out with it or the hair itself ripping?

I don't know, I have a scar through my eyebrow; hair hasn't grown through it for over twenty years and this eyebrow hair is thick, I am talking resilient stuff here.

I've heard of accidents where hair was caught in machinery and chunks of scalp, or the whole scalp came off.

If it was just a person doing it to themselves, with their bare hands, and not machinery like what McMuddle said, I don't think it would rip off a chunk of scalp - think of, like, waxing, it's just hair that comes off not flesh.

There are a lot of good movies out there that give a sense of what happens on death row, or a quick google search on procedure for the state in question should help you with those answers. Death Row inmates, particularly those on the final line, are treated very well. Their cells are small, but they get good meals, better beds, etc. Also, you'd need to research time period and method of execution.

Yeah, I thought it would be that easy too, but finding almost insignificant info, like who cleans their cell, is kinda hard. Oh well, keep on keeping on.

I have a scar on the back of my head from where I was grazed with a hockey stick and the hair grows just as thick, but it grows in gray (actually, it's more white come to think of it). It's just as thick if not thicker, but it comes loose easily. Sometimes it feels like a fine fishing line. There's like six hairs or so and I usually just pull them out because I hate the idea of having a gray patch at my age.

When I asked my doctor about it she said it's totally normal and the same condition is found on some birthmarks (Apparently patches of hairs grow out long and gray).

I have a scar in my eyebrow as well. I don't think its been quite 20 years, 12 - 15 years maybe, and nothing has ever grown there. It does look a bit odd, but I try to cover it up so its not so noticeable. It is a rather thick (wide) scar near the end of my eyebrow on the side closest to my nose. I was scratched by a cat when I was younger, that's how I got it.

About the death row thing, are there any prisons near you that house death row inmates? If so you could probably talk to a guard or maybe even get a tour of the prison. There is a prison near me, so if you need I could see if I could talk to some of the guards there for you and find out what you need for what you are writing. I'm not for sure if this prison has a death row, though. PM me if you'd like me to look into it for you.

Also I have a friend who is in jail at this moment for murder. If you have any questions I could ask him for you I would have no problem doing so. It would actually be nice to have something else to talk to him about other than "what the fuck were you thinking". PM me if I can be of any help.

Ever since I was REALLY little (like 2 or 3) I had this white hair growing out of my right eyebrow. It wasn't even out of a scar or anything - it just grew really long (if I didn't cut it, i have no idea how long it could have gotten because it grew like the hair on my head). Then in 3rd, some girl yanked it off, I got pretty mad because I thought it was kind of cool, which was why I had it so long in the first place. It never grew back again, but I'm glad, because now, I think I realize how weird that was....
