Hi everyone. I'm a final year student at Queen Mary College, University of London, and I'm writing my dissertation on Chuck Palahniuk. Being a massive fan of his work I've not had any trouble choosing which of his novels to write about, but an amount of secondary reading is also necessary. A search of the facilities available to me has turned up little critical material about his writing besides a few brief articles in literary journals. It would be realy great if anyone here can point me towards any critical / academic writing about Chuck's work.

I realise that this is a big ask, but you have to try I suppose. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Yours,

Martin

There used to be a couple threads with those in them on the old site. God only knows where they might be on here. Which book are you doing the work on? I'd say try scouring that forum and see if anything turns up. Are you just looking for stuff on Chuck? If we knew which book your doing, might be able to come up with some other books or authors or whatnot to include into it.

The books by Palahniuk that I'm looking at are Fight Club, Survivor and Invisible Monsters. I'll take your advice and browse the specific forums.

OK, this may be a dumb suggestion, but why not email one of the guys who created the site? They're the ultimate "cultists", I suppose, and all their emails are right in the "contacts" section. If they don't know the answer off top, they can prob point you in the right direction. Its what I would do. Good luck! 8)

You can try e mailing them, but it might be a while before you get a response. I think they're up to their gills trying to work out all the bugs in the new site right now.

Keep an eye out if they get the Writer's Resource page back up over here, that might have some things to look for in it as well.

I wonder how one goes about finding a magazine to publish their short story.   I'm sure there is not an exhaustive list of periodicals one can search in order to find one that might fit their material, is there?  Just wondering where I should start with this undertaking?  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

There's should be a Writer's Market book out there just for magazine submissions. I don't know when or if the 08 one is out yet or not, but something to look into. Also, I think the Writer's Resource page on here also had some links for submitting your work to places.

will tupper has a list of online places
go from the "Links" button on the bottom of the page

or click here: http://www.chuckpalahniuk.net/links

just scroll down. this is the only part of the resources page ive been able to find thus far. im sure the rest will be along soon enough

hope that's helpful in looking for a publisher

also, if you want to sell a story, consider the type of magazine you like to read short stories from and get a current issue. they generally have submission guidelines and an address for your work

Thanks a lot for your help.  That gives me a place to start.  Honestly, I'm not familiar with a lot of mags.  I've just written something that I'm proud of and just sort of toying with the idea of sending it out but am clueless as to what magazines even publish stories.  I have a lot of homework to do, obviously.  Thanks again.  So friendly here.  I love that.

Also, is there any way to change my username?  I did not intend for it to be my email address and would like to change it if possible.  Thanks again, again.

 . .

hey, found the full resource page, here:

http://chuckpalahniuk.net/workshop/resource

as for changing your user name, over the years ive seen a few people asking this same request for one reason or another, but i have not once seen that request fulfilled.  i think it is a helleva pain in the ass.  i dont know how to, but if you pm dennis or mirka then maybe something can work out

if not, i recommend changing your "title", under your current "username", to the name you'd like others here to call you.  just a thought

good luck on your search
