Unless it can be done in secret, like in a bathroom, I'd say it must be done remotely. Sniping can be positioned too easily. Bomb perhaps, but that's messy. Poison, but only if you know they're going to eat/drink whatever it is.

I guess it would have to be an inside job. I dont know. I have a story where the topic of it kills the president. I dont know if it is best to have an ellaborate scheme or for him to do it up close with no intention of getting away.

I'd say unless it has to be a single person acting, you'd have greater chance of success as a group. The more angles of invasion, the less chance of successfully thwarting an attack. At the very least, he could create a diversionary "terror cell" that keeps making noise about an imminent attack to draw focus.
