Some anti-inflammitory medication can have a side effect of dislodging an implanted, fertilized zygote; I don't know how far into pregnancy this can happen, but I'd immagine if you wanted a makeshift abortion, a huge dose of these would work, but probably wouldn't be especially safe. It bears looking into, though, especially to see if your character could, you know, survive the process.

Also, consider that you may want to fictionalize the process considerably. Even if PocketFives's idea doesn't work, use it anyway. Chances are, if the method is 100% true, a publisher will make you change it slightly to avoid possible legal issues (like Palahniuk with his bomb recipes in Fight Club).

I had heard of the wire hanger in the bathtub before, but it's not the sort of thing my character would try. Thanks anyway.

I like the anti-flammatories. guess I should fictionalize it a bit so that it fits the story, but it's the kind of thing I had in mind. I also read on wikipedia that abortion pills can be bought in the southamerican black market for about a hundred bucks.

Anyway, I'm still open to new ideas (I'm working on other scenes right now) so keep posting!

if i remember correctly, chuck had it right in the book and it was the movie that changed the wording

i remember reading that during the filming they had the bomb squad there for technical advice and, after reading the ingredients like a list, they shook their heads and said, That is the right way.

rumor told a few years ago that the books were changed in later printings, but i never heard word from chuck on that and have never thought to ask him.

yeah, i too have heard that a full day in a hot tub turned high will kill a fetus prettymuch without doubt.  well, maybe that's after a few fulls months into the pregnancy.

I imagine in a place where it's illegal you can still pay to have it done underground, or off the coast on a boat.

But seriously, I think taking a bunch of Morning After Pills would get the job done. I guess it depends how far along she is.

Make your character have a severe acne problem and get accutane perscribed to her.  She could claim later she didnt know she was pregnant and the doctors would be forced to perform the abortion because the child will be born with severe birth defects. 

Have your character takin part in full penatrive sex with a herd of stallions, this should do the trick and also lead to an interestin story arc.

just have her be startled so bad the thing shoots out, you don't have to go into detail unless the plot hinges on it or whatever.. I'd just have her drop it and move on with her life!

I've got it.

Today Clarin (a local newspaper) had an article about Oxaprost, an anti-flammatory that is seldom used to abort.

It's sold at 50-60 bucks, and it can be bought without any prescription (thought legally you need one) According to this, it can be used farely well up to the third month, but it works even in the fifth (with more risks obviously)

Misotropol is also mentiod, but it's completely illegal and more expensive.
