The Maxx
So I was talking with Brandon about graphic novels and comic books after I saw that he put 3 graphic novel authors on his 15 authors list. The only graphic novel that I ever read was Watchmen and I loved it. I liked the fact that the people felt real.
He recommended that I check out The Maxx. He also said the show was pretty good (it aired on MTV).
I watched the show and I have to say it was way deeper than you would think from looking at the artwork or reading a description.
I'm definitely going to be checking into the actual books now.
I have some thoughts on the show, but I want to see what you guys have to say about this.
Kirk and Brandon? haha
(I did some searching on the cult and this is Kirk's favorite series)
How many volumes are there?
Volume 1 isn't available. I'll have to buy a used copy...
I have the first TPB, it was really interesting and the art is fun. I'll probably get the next. It's one of those stories with tons of metaphors and symbolic stuff that goes right over my head.
I loved the series, but I never read any of the books... will have to look into it.
"...human speech is like a cracked tin kettle, on which we hammer out tunes to make bears dance when we long to move the stars."
loved the maxx. did not know they made a show. the dark night was a fave and the watchmen too.. so was grendel..
The show was pretty good. It was on MTV when MTV had late night cartoons. You can find places online to download it for free. Or amazon sells it for $16. If you liked the comics, the show is definitely worth a watch.

I just wish they would reprint the books already so I can own them all. I'm not gonna buy them until I can get a copy of the 1st volume.
I miss that show The Idiot Box with Alex Winter. What ever happened to that dude?
I don't know what you're talking about. But is it something that I have to try and track down?

Maxx still in print... new mags and all?
Not that I know of.

I think this is a Gonzalez favorite too, if I'm not mistaken.
When you start reading them, read at least the first three volumes because that's when you start getting some real answers about The Maxx and The Outback. After that, the series takes a completely different turn.
I love Keith's illustration, by the way. He's got such a unique style.
