Samurai Champloo
I'm not even going to give you a synopsis. Just watch it.

My new fav show to watch.
i saw ads in mags for this show; "from the animation team from Kill Bill," so I checked it out. pretty kick-ass stuff. i dig the hip-hop aspect as well.
i dont like it. someone wrote in their xanga, "just finished watching the samurai champloo series. its hilarious!" and i watched it, anticipating humor. and totally got punk'd.

You're trusting the review of a show in someone's blog as the final word before watching it yourself?
That said, very few anime/manga is ever intented to be exclusively comical. Yes it has comical aspects, but most of the time it's quick snaps, and you have to understand Japanese culture (and subcultures to a certain degree) to get the joke most of the time.

it was God's blog. God wrote it. Sixteentimes really likes god. She wouldn't understand because she likes God so much and we all know the Japanese have no souls.

Juice Boxes the lots of you.

We stole the Japanese soul's when we occupied them after WW2. The Japanese in turn replaced them with motorized aluminium Godzila toys and American cigarettes.
A fair trade I'd say, in today's existential market anyway.
I was here. Then I wasn't. Then I was again.
Really? I just figured they sold them all to the devil so they could be better than everyone at everything. The catch was, of course, that they all have very small penis.

After the bubble burst in the 90's the deal was looking sketchy anyhow.

I got spoilers. Anyone want some spoilers?

There's funny stuff all over the series but the baseball episode titled "Baseball Blues" and the one about Mugen trying to get over his illiteracy titled "War of The Words" are the only laugh out loud episodes I can remember.

I can't believe this thread died.

They are showing SamChamp on french TV and I am happily surprised.
The "From the Kill Bill anime team" tag made me cringe because I thought the animated sequences were one of the many disappointing points in KB, and the reviews always insisted on the modern tone (especially in music), which didn't make me very optimistic, but those Japanese people managed to stay away from most clichés and delivered a very nice series.
Speaking of animated series, has GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka) been shown on american TV ? Was it successful ?

Yeah, GTO started airing in the US just a couple of years back but I haven't really bothered to check it out.
BTW, I liked the anime in KB.

Really? When did it air and what channel (or is it still on perchance)? I heard good things about this series but never knew it was released to the US.

It aired around two years ago. I don't think it was very successful cause they're not airing it anymore. It was in HBO or Showtime or one of their sister stations. Do they have more than one? Anyway, I tried googling it and it doesn't seem to be airing in any channels right now. It's not even in the Anime Network. Maybe The Cartoon Network will pick it up.
You can always buy the DVDs.
P.S Where the fuck is the sig I made you? Not man enough to wear pink?

Hehe. I have an idea for my own sig actually, but again I'm lazy and I keep forgetting to get around to it.
Besides the one you made me clashes too much with my avatar and just doesn't fit right with it. And I'm keeping this avy for a while.
Oh also before I forget, [adult swim] is airing Champloo tonight on their Friday Night Fix. So watch it!

Eh......I've already seen them all.

I watched the whole series on youtube. Loved it!!! The director is the same who did Cowboy Bebop and I swear, he has never dissapointed. Although I was anticipating Gene and Mogen to battle it out at one point. But the humor was excellent and the whole modern day hip hop influences were great. A+ in my book.
A-
the best anime I've ever seen.
Champloo is good
not my favorite but its up there
i noticed on the link it said something about Ergo Proxy and that looks like a sweet anime
the best anime I've ever seen.
The only anime I've managed to get through without wincing even once!
I've always hated anime for some strange reason, including the manga art in general. I think it has to do with those big eyes and bigger glasses and exaggeration of everything. Yes, my friends tied me to a chair and made me go through some Naruto and some full metal something. I am sorry, no offense to fans, but it killed me. Another thing that pisses me off is those stories that never end, stupid. Reminds me of Bold and the Beautiful and Santa Barbara
Then, one of those anime fans said, "I will get you to follow at least one anime series, trust me!" I said, "Ha!" Their main point was that if I liked Samurai stuff, like Zatoichi then I should like Anime.
Then he one day said, "How come you like Tarantino? You must be hating him for using anime in Kill Bill!" Surprisingly, I didn't. I liked the way that one was done. It seemed very beautifully done. Then my friend continued, "If you liked the art work in that one, the colours, the way the characters looked, then you should check out Samurai Champloo!" And he sent me a youtube link for the fan subs. Hell! The first episode was kick ass and now I wanted to explore it. The whole anachronistic hip hop element started to get to me like anthrax takes over your body
I am totally in love with Samurai Champloo. Oh btw, even my friend didn't know that the team behind Samurai Champloo did Kill Bill. And I just came to know of it right now
And so Samurai Champloo remains the only anime I've seen till date.

For people with a conscience: These are free Fan subs. So technically, you're not an IP pirate if you download these.
Yeah I agree I don't watch anime at all really except Samurai Champloo and FLCL. I haven't gotten to finish this one though and probably will not get around to it. I plan on buying the dvds(I'm sure they're out right?) I plan on spending my money on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia when it comes out Sept. 4. So if I have any money left over I'm gonna try and get this.

I forgot to watch it last night.
You should check out Paranoia Agent as well. It's on right after Samurai Champloo.
