Pretty much on par with the movie.

I think it's interesting how they adapted it. Semour pretty much is a new character for the movie. His whole story, and his relationship to the girls isn't in the comic at all. And Semour kinda reminds me of Terry Zwigoff. It's like Terry Zwigoff was inserted into the script as Semour. Ghost World is probably my favorite movie. There's something about it that just oh so resonates with me. Maybe it's the whole teenage alienation thing.

i just love the ending;
it's so un-hollywood-happy-ending that it feels just right.

but i definetly love seymour's character, that is, you grow to love him.

What do you think the ending is supposed to mean? Is it a happy or sad ending?

it can be interpreted in different ways i think.

SPOILERS don't read this if you havent seen the movie. SPOILERS
-------------------------------------------------------------------

the old man is waiting for the bus every day for the whole movie and right when enid's life starts screwing up she goes to see this old guy who she thought would always be there. she tells him, earlier, that he's the only person in the town that she can always count on not to leave her; but the bus comes and takes him away at that moment when she needs him the most.

then she gets on the bus...

i remember my dad saying something like, the fact that she gets on the bus after this could be symbolizing her killing herself cuz she's just had enough. (which is kindof going out there i think, but possible) he had some backup points but i can't remember them now.

in a more literal sense, i think she just leaves;
when she's lying on the bed with seymour in their last perfect moment together before things screw up she says someday she's always wanted to leave town and not tell anyone. just leave and start a new life.

thats why the ending is so satisfying to me because i think she's finally moving on from everything and just escaping in the most literal and metaphorical way possible.

i find that satisfying, it's not really happy or sad. it just is.
