I'll go with the thriller Perfect Blue. It's a head trip. Leaps and bounds above the average anime of future cities, robots, school girls, fighting, and so on.

I know this is attached to a series, but it's so different it might as well be it's own entity: Samurai X. So beautifully gory. I love it.

I saw Perfect Blue, but me and my friends have no fucking idea what was going on at the end.

I've only seen two so far: Ninja Scroll and Spirited Away, and by default I have to go with Spirited because when I watched Ninja, my boyfriend at the time had to keep poking me to stay awake. I really did enjoy Spirited Away, though.

I have to go with Interstella 5555, The Daft punk Musical the story is great, the animation is great, and the characters don't speak a word, the only audio is a whole album of Daft Punk songs from the Discovery album.

After that I have to go with Eskaflowne, Akira, and Ghost in The shell, in no particular order.

I haven't seen a lot of anime movies (I'm a series/OVA kind of person), but I have to say my favourite is Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' On Heaven's Door. It doesn't really capture the essence of the series, but has some kick-ass fight scenes and a very nice atmosphere-- not to mention the insanely beautiful music.

Least fave is Shoujo Kakumei Utena: Adolescence Mokushiroku. I'm a big fan of the TV series, but the movie is basically one big incarnation of everything I might possibly hate about the show. Not only did they remove everything I liked about the series-- they also inserted a whole lot more crap.

Other movies I've seen... well, keep in mind that they're a bit hard to come by here in Europe. I've seen a Sailor Moon movie, "Ami's first love", which was kinda cute... I've seen half of Akira, but the testosterone level was too high. Methinks I should watch more...

Hands down, the best anime movie ever is Grave of the Fireflies. Done by the same studio as all of the Miazaki films(Spirited Away, Mononoke), it's all about two japanese children trying to survive the horrors of the American air raids on their town. The animation is fluid and mixes well with the watercolor backgrounds. The real hook is the caracters though. The plot is so heart-wrenching and emotional that is just wakes you up to what anime is really capable of.

Honorable mention goes to: Ghost in the Shell, Princess Mononoke, and Armitage the III - Poly Matrix.

GitS, forgot about that one. It was nice, but it seriously lacked the atmopshere that the manga had. Music was annoying.

I agree with akira, Mononoke was a little overlong, but still amazing, all that have been mentioned are great but I have to mention Lupin III: the castle of cogliostro, excellent action comedy, much better than the series, and also a studio ghibli film. Giant Robo is also one of the best anime movies, I suggest you all check it out, the engish dub is kind of cheesy, but sometimes I just watch it on mute, it rules...

that was a good movie. i didn't like the few cheesier parts that reminded me of pokemon though. i kinda wish it was by the same animators that did the kenshin series, too. those were much better artists.

Akira sucks ass. The correct answer is Metropolis.

Metropolis is good but Wu-Ta....er Akira is for the children.

Don't get me wrong Metro is pretty awesome the Ray Charles "Can't Stop Loving You"/destruction of the Ziggurat was an awesome anime sequence among other things in that movie, but if you took a poll on Metropolis vs. Akira its no contest lame plot or otherwise. Maybe better animation quality but other than that?

I use to hate anime movies, I found them annoying and particulary didn't find any interest in every viewing even the shortest clip. However, one of my friends introduced me to Ninja Scroll, and I've been hooked on that movie ever since. Since then, other good Anime movies that I've watched that are worthy of viewing are Vampire Hunted D:Bloodlust and Cowboy Bebop.

I saw Howl's Moving Castle last night. The story wasn't that great, but the animation was decent and the english voice actors didn't have as much cheesiness that most dubbed animes have. Christian Bale and Billy Crystal did voices for this movie, which took me by surprise.
