Best comic or graphic novel you've read lately
I just read all of The Walking Dead.
"I'm glad I live in the GPS era. In a different century, I would've set off to visit the other side of the village and wandered off into the mountains and been eaten by a carnivorous plant. Or discovered the Americas."
-LaJessica
I started The Unwritten, I guess I'll see how that is.
This thread, and ScribblingDes has inspired me to read the "30 Days of Night" collection. Well, at least find the "Eben and Stella" book 7.
After Valentines day.
Anybody read any Deadpool?
I've read a little bit of David Lapham's Max stuff, which was fun to read. I really want to read Brian Posehn's stuff because i bet it's good too.
David Lapham wrote Daredevil Max? I'll have to check it out then.
I've read two great series lately. Lucifer by Mike Carrey could be the most epic story ever told. Great writing all around, and so much better than Sandman. The other was Changing Ways by Justin Randall there are only two books that I know of. That are hard to find but very worth tracking down if you like original sci-fi/horror.
Also loved Hack/Slash, anything by Garth Ennis (preacher), Grant Morrison (The Invisibles), and Alan Moore (Neonomicon).
I'm reading iZombie right now and it kind of sucks. It's repetitive and whiny, and it tries too hard to be cute.

I was wondering that too, the series where he destroys the Marvel universe, and the new ones they're doing now where he goes into different historical books and fucks shit up seem pretty cool.
Been spending a lot of time in comic book stores lately!
The Unwritten is pretty interesting so far, I just finished book 4. Would reccomend to anyone who likes more 'literary' comics, it's pretty meta. I guess anyone who likes Fables would probably be into it, a lot of obvious and hidden literary references, which is a nice payoff if you do a lot of reading!
Also been reading Chew, which is fun, and have the first book of Saga, Scalped and Theif of Thieves to look at too.
I've been enjoying the new Nightwing reboot so far too. I got the first books of the new Batman (Court of Owls) and also Batman and Robin (Born to Kill) to read. Sounds like they're going to be pretty dark, which I like. There are so many new comics now, I didn't realise that DC basically rebooted every character. Craziness!
Anybody read any of those 'Before Watchmen'? comics? any good?
I've heard the before watchmen are really good haven't had a chance to get around to them yet though.
I haven't read any Brubaker/Phillips until now, but I just burned through the first two trade paperbacks of FATALE, and wow, this series is great! Noir meets horror, great art, touches of humour.. right up my alley.
Anyone read any other Brubaker/Phillips stuff that they can reccomend?
I ordered Habibi by Craig Thompson, and I can't wait for it to get here. I love his style of drawing.
Anyone read any other Brubaker/Phillips stuff that they can reccomend?
Pete should help you out there but Brubaker/Phillips are great. I have yet to read Fatale. I keep seeing the artwork and fall in love.
I believe they did Criminal which is good. Sleeper and Incognito which got me hooked to Phillips artwork. Brubaker's writing is great too.
I have not read Fatale yet. I've been curious about it, it sounds great.
Brubaker was the first comic writer I really got into after Moore. My favorite that I've read is Sleeper. I think that there is an omnibus that collects both volumes and the prequel. I could be wrong.
Criminal is kind of like Sin City. Each book follows a different person, but the stories are all overlapping. You'll see the same people in the background, or they'll go to the same places. In my opinion, Criminal was funner to read than Sin City.
His Daredevil run is great. But if you read it, it's even better if you read all of Bendis' run before that - which is among my favorite superhero comic runs I've read. They blend together and Brubaker really builds off of what Bendis did.
Brubaker's run on Captain America is also really good. I believe he's still writing it. I've read up to No Escape. I don't think there was a bad story in there.
Brubaker stopped writing Captain America a few months ago. Seems like he was phoning it in near the end.
That's disappointing. I thought he was doing some cool stuff with it.
Thanks Pete, I'll have to look into Sleeper and Criminal. I just read the first collection of Elephantmen, which manages to make a silly idea (giant anthropomorphic African animals trained as killer soldiers, and their stories once they are freed) compelling and funny. The art is mostly great too, like Blade Runner with giant animals instead of replicants. Only downside is that the books are so thick the binding cracked already, and I was being really careful with it too.
Reading TMNT. It's been a really fun run. Other then that Invincible has been consistently good as well.
Re-reading the Sin City series at the moment, along with classic mid '60s Fantastic Four (Jack Kirby & Stan Lee). Yum.

I read this recently and I loved it. Definitely one of the best graphic novels I've read.
