Did anyone notice that none of the characters actually discussed being writers in their earlier lives. I guess the closest thing is the journalist, Earl of Slander. It doesn't change the quality of the book, which I found both deep and entertaining and I understand that they all needed to escape their pasts for some reason or another, but I found it a little strange that so many non-writers would respond to such a general advertisement that at first seems to genuinely be a writer's retreat.
