Noticed Something Strange...

Okay, I guess the title is a little misleading, as this book is kinda strange in general. But really, in the third chapter, I noticed that the room Mr. Whittier sits in, described as a "French Louis XV lobby" with "cornflower blue velvet" chairs. I may be wrong on this, but that sounds a lot like the setting of "No Exit" by Jean-Paul Sartre. Of course, it makes perfect sense in the context of the novel (it's a personal Hell). Do you think Chuck planned it this way? Have you found any other throwbacks to other works?

I just realized the symbolism of the room colors and relation to Poe's Masque of the Red Death. It makes perfect sense, as, again, the characters are trapped in this "palace" of sorts and haunted by the need to make money (as opposed to the Red Death). The reference at the beginning makes sense now! And the colors are just as the Masque's; each room styled in a different color.
