Is "Guts" possible? (spoiler)

Hi, I'm new to the site and Chuck's books.
I'm reading Haunted right now (please don't spoil it for me!) and was very shocked and horrified while reading the short story "Guts" (In a good way. Well, after I recovered).
I'm sure this has already been asked/answered on this site, but since I couldn't find the answer, is Guts possible? If so, how?!?
I don't understand how it would work in my mind. Saint Gut-Free's large intestine would have to be pulled either inside-out (meaning two layers of it, which he didn't describe) or have broken off at his anus and been pulled out that way (which to me seems at the very least, highly unlikely).
Has this ever actually happened to someone?
People get prolapsed colons all the time. Happens to wieghtlifters a lot i think. As for Guts, yes, it can happen and has happened quite a few times. There was some little girl in Minnesota last year or the year before I think that it happened to. There was a thread in the News section about it, with a link to the local story and whatall.
