Could Obsolete and The Nightmare Box be connected?

Just finished the book and absolutely loved every page! The Nightmare Box and Obsolete were two stories that really caught my attention. I remember one of the characters mentioning that the Nightmare Box gave a glimpse into the truth behind life, how we are only a part of something bigger.

I'm almost wondering if "Obsolete" was supposed to answer the question of what exactly the Nightmare Box explained? This could be an extended version of what Cassandra saw. Any other thoughts??

I think they are definitely connected. I just finished the novel and have mixed feelings about it, however The Nightmare Box and Obsolete left the biggest impact. I immediately felt both stories were tied (and did anyone catch that the name on the actual Nightmare Box is Roland Whittier - same last name as the old/young man who ran the retreat and the author of Obsolete)?
Pity that Mrs. Clark went on the writers retreat only to find out what happened to her daughter Cassandra. The whole time, Mr. Whittier knew, but apparently never told her.
