After experiencing the nightmare box and realizing what a sham reality as we perceive it is - shouldn't Cassandra have lost the will to struggle like the cockroach kid? Why did she even bother going to the writer's retreat and torture herself? That's always been on my mind and I could never make sense of it. Any ideas?

I really have no idea but there is a running theme in chuck's books about pain. Pain makes you feel alive it takes you back to reality and makes you live in that exact moment. So maybe she went to the writers retreat to feel like part of reality?
