"The 10 most popular ideas will be presented to relevant members of the Obama Administration, and Change.org will subsequently mobilize its full community to support a series of grassroots campaigns to help turn each idea into reality."

Proof that people are stupid. The top two issues are pro-weed and anti-tobacco, in that order.

Yeah, wasn't the top question for Obama for some YouTube thing he did a question about making marijuana legal or something? Something about making it legal to help the economy or something?

In health class last year I was assigned to debate the benefits of the legalization of marijuana (I won the debate), and through research I learned that marijuana, if taxed by the government, could garner $6.8 billion dollars in revenue for the government. Which is a lot.

And Obama just shrugged the idea off! The nerve of him!!

It seems to me that what proves people are stupid is the fact that the substance that causes cancer and kills thousands of people a year is legal while the substance that never killed anyone is not. While the benefits of legalization on the economy are well documented, the real reason it should be legalized is because it is wrong to put people in prison for choosing to smoke a harmless plant. Do you think it's a coincidence that the majority of the funding for "A Partnership for a Drug free America," came from the alcohol and tobacco industry. The ALCOHOL and TOBACCO industry is worried about Americans getting addicted to a dangerous substance! The only danger pot brings is to their profit margins and to the contributions these corporations give to politicians, and that is not a good reason to put people in prison. But the bottom line is that no matter how many people sign a petition, those people aren't going to replace the campaign contributions that these corporations pay the politicians for their vote and that's why pot will stay illegal.

I think he actually wants to legalize it, but he's on the nation's bad side right now...so that might not be a wise choice.

I think it says something about the danger of the Obama icon in that so many people allege that he secretly doesn't wanna be Bush III, but all the pressures force him to suck, and continue the welfare/warfare state.

I'm sad that the "Provide Legal Protections for Animals Through the Animal Bill of Rights" is in 12th place. Though honestly I don't care if you give the animals rights, just as long as somehow they are given protection from things like what is seen in this video of people typing a dog up like a tetherball and beating him with sticks [edit: video now Unavailable]

This one was posted by the Earthlings Facebook group, but I'm plugged into many animal welfare groups. My favorite is http://www.aldf.org/

Yeah, sorry, should have given a better warning on the first link (which I just added). The second link isn't disturbing, no worries there.

I would like to see a bigger push for creation of environmental jobs. We barely have manufacturing here in the States, these jobs could replace the old Automobile days...

Congress and the Senate have a say in what laws and regulations pass in the US.

Democrats have a majority in congress and the executive. They could do anything they want right now. If you wanna believe the lies that some mystical force is holding soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan, as though the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces can't put out an executive order calling all troops home, then go for it. Obama's on the record as in favor of continuing the fighting in Afghanistan, and it has become his Iraq. Any allegation that Obama is pro-peace is anti-fact. He just swapped countries of interest with Bush and the Dems showed themselves much more passive warmongers than the Repubs.

Also, Obama came into office with a lot of problems caused by Bush.

Just Bush? I thought this wasn't a dictatorship?

Quote:
Cut him some slack; do you think you could get the US out of two wars,

Yes.

Quote:
immense debt

No.

Quote:
and a collapsing economy in less than a year? Doubt it. He is trying, but, again, this isn't a dictatorship, other politicians have control over what the government does.

He is failing. He is continuing Bush's failed policies which failed all the presidents before him. Obama is a politician like any other; his interests are spending money, destroying things, printing more money, and repeating the process.

Gigg's last paragraph is spot-on. It's a shell game, for sure.

I have to agree with you on this, Giggan. No argument here. I'm not prepared to let someone off easy just because they are a Democrat; even less so, this may be the one chance we have to influence policy before another Republican juggernaut. Stop pandering to the middle and do what's right. These people were elected with a mandate to do things, not to be re-elected.

Me too, Alexa.

Too, i think it's stupid that people with one of the most important jobs in the country make barely enough to survive in the country.

But here's the thing. Americans always want more more more, and don't want to pay for it. The presidents are just giving them what they want. Maybe it's not the presidents who suck, maybe it's the people.

Whatever the motivations, it's time we stop aggressing against our neighbors to solve problems.

The president is a people, too. And an american no less!

Saying that the problem with america is the american people is kind of redundant.

It's not so much that Americans want more, more, more as it is they are sick of getting less, less, less.

Well, we were talking about how it's the presidents who are doing everything bad, so I guess I was just reminding everyone about the people factory.

I've edited what I wrote here about five times...not sure why...don't know where my heads at right now...okay, I'm gonna stop editing.

Happy that the "End Chimpanzee Experiments, Pass the Great Ape Protection Act" made it to the top ten.
