The Sessesionist Campaign for the Republic of Vermont was featured in The Time Magazine. I'm all for the socialists of Vermont getting independence. I'd love to have the first neighborly trade of the post-empire United States (whatever it'll be called then) be between New Hampshire and Vermont. The co-ops can exist on one side of New England, the individual enterprises on the other.

Things be going in good directions.

Their efforts are scheduled to succeed roughly at the same time as the Middle East peace process.

Tuffy the Dump Truck may rarely increase the risk of a heart attack or stroke. The risk may be greater if you have heart disease or increased risk for heart disease (for example, due to smoking, family history of heart disease, or conditions such as high blood pressure or diabetes), or with longer use. Tuffy should not be taken right before or after heart bypass surgery. Also, Tuffy may infrequently cause serious (rarely fatal) bleeding from the stomach or intestines. This effect can occur without warning symptoms at any time while taking Tuffy. Older adults may be at higher risk for this effect. (See also Precautions and Drug Interactions sections.) Stop taking Tuffy and get medical help right away if you notice any of the following rare but serious side effects: bloody or black/tarry stools, persistent stomach/abdominal pain, vomit that looks like coffee grounds, chest/jaw/left arm pain, shortness of breath, unusual sweating, weakness on one side of the body, sudden vision changes, slurred speech. Ask your doctor if Tuffy is right for you.

It's not so much that I think they'll be able to get it done themselves as they'll have the coat tails of NH to ride on up into independence.

They say libertarians are conservatives who smoke cannabis and read Ayn Rand. There are most definitely liberals out there who smoke pot and read, I don't know, Howard Zinn. Now there's a place for them, Vermont. Mr. Obama's not gonna end the war(s), everybody. The empire will only dissolve when we tell it to. People will soon start realizing that there's no need for masters thousands of miles away to exist.

Libertarians have a problem with their name as of recently. Like, Glenn Beck giving a misconstrued definition of what it means to be a libertarian. I'm just saying that sucks; a lot of people define themselves as libertarian when they do not even know it's core beliefs. Also, in Vermont and New Hampshire isn't there not a lot of economic growth? Don't those states stay stagnant in population and income? Can you tell us about that? Because if they were to secede they wouldn't be able to get Federal money... Then again, you could argue it would help that.

A dollar goes a lot further in NH than it does elsewhere (well, I can compare it to Long Island, NY, and Sarasota, FL). As of last year NH was the lowest tax burden per individual state in the union. VT's tax burden is low for the amount of infrastructure there. I don't know much about VT except that its like a socialist version of NH. It even says in the article that the movement considers itself 'left-libertarian'. As evil as socialism is, I gotta say I don't mind spending time with the reds over in VT. Good skiing, intoxicatingly scrumptious cheese, and cool stuff to climb, hike, and explore.

NH has a healthy business market (relative to the rest of the US right now), which many free state project members have demonstrated by starting their own businesses. Bureaucratic hurdles to starting a business are of a significantly lower quantity than in most states. There's no sales or income state-sanctioned robbery (tax). A few of the towns in NH were ranked 'highly recession-proof' by some economics people in a magazine.

With a devaluing dollar, it is likely the FSP will actually have a positive impact on NH's economy simply because of the fact that a larger number of people are now trading hard currency, even if only occasionally. Specie concentration would mean overall wealth in an area would be higher during massive inflation.

I know lots of employed people in NH...finding a job is hard right now but not impossible. That's about it on the economic front.

And I remember Manchester was rated the fastest growing city in America a few years ago by some group, or was high in some list for a while...not sure if it still is, but yeah.

EDIT: NH does not get a lot of money back from the feds. All states put in more than they get back, cuz the feds are that wasteful, but NH is probably high on the list of most ripped-off states by the feds since it receives so few major subsidies. NH definitely would be on economic steroids if it left the union, as would any state. The empire is too expensive to maintain.

Eventually, people will realize this and stop feeding the beast.

Seriously. The government would put a bullet in the head of every Vermont resident before they allowed a state to secede. We've seen this movie before, we know how it ends.

Pity, it'd be nice if the whole Northeast (sans Washington 'course) could secede and leave the rest of the country to wallow in their own fucking stupidity.
