the pill..for men

The male pill may be a good idea, but the maximization of profits sought out by large drug companies, forced upon them by capitalistic ideals, precludes any real development of this form of contraception... simply put, the monetary risks of the male birth control pill outweigh the benefits...
Why would the large drug companies research a male contraceptive when they can make more profit from Viagra? This attitude not only reflects the economic priorities of drug companies, but social priorities as well... you see, research and funding is put into contraceptive methods for women and sexual rejuvenation for men... which makes the social message clear... women take care of birth control and men take care of sexual performance...
good point, a lot of drug research is being done on those generalizations. probably the first few years of the male pill probably will be bumpy just based on that, unless they market it in just the right manner. as soon as the product goes out on the market i'm sure you'll be seeing/reading/hearing ads/commercials on how the male pill can help promote sexual preformance. take this little pill and don't worry about knockin' her up. take this pill and never see your name on a paternity test. take this little pill and you can have as many women as you want, without having to worry about the possibility of any responsability on your part. take this little pill and feel everything during sex, no condom to interfere.
you get the general idea. if it's marketed in just the right way, with just the right spin, it could definately take off.
So apparently trials in Australia have been going very well. According to Elle.com, 62% of women would not trust their man to take the pill, saying things like "when men are the ones who can get pregnant, then they can be trusted with birth control." 35% of women would trust their man.

I can't be the only man who finds this highly condescending towards men in general...
Then again it is Elle.com...

Am i the only male here that would use it? and no one has mentioned or asked if this stops you from cumming.. i eman, you get the orgasm, but you dont cum... or maybe you just cum lubricant.
Abstinence is the best contraception.
HA!!! thats like saying "cutting your dick off is the best contraception"
a new form of male contraception is emerging from trials in monkeys. this one involves no horomones (which may make it more attractive to males), but rather a protein that the male body produces naturally (in the testis and epididymus). researchers inject the protein the the blood stream, and since normally the body's blood stream never encounters this protein, the immune system kicks in and produces antibodies, which causes the sperm to not be able to seperate from the semen, so there was no sperm reduction, but there was no chance of fertilization.
also, once the injections stop (injections once every 3 weeks) fertility resumes. pretty interesting new take on contraception.

New male contraceptive without side-effects
The first injectable male contraceptive could be on the way after a trial in Australia proved 100% effective. In the study, 55 men received hormone treatment over the course of a year containing a combination of the male hormone testosterone and progestin, which is used in female contraceptive pills, in an attempt to "switch off" sperm production.

i don't see it working out very well. switching off sperm production? isn't that a part of testosterone? testosterone is what helps men get horny, and want to have sex. great, here honey, put this on, 6 months later, but honey, we haven't had sex in 3 months, what's wrong, i'm so horneeeeeee................

Birth control is clearly an issue of sexual politics...
The female birth control pill has undergone extensive research since it was first introduced in 1960. It is hailed as "an advance in social justice that is in keeping with democratic values" and an instrument of the "power of reproductive capacity". It is true that the pill gave women the power of reproductive choice... however, the fact remains that society regards birth control as a woman's responsibility...
I do not argue that the pill has not been beneficial to advancements in women's reproductive rights... nevertheless, it is important to point out that the freedom granted by the birth control pill is still within a patriarchal context...
The promotion of research, effort and funding for the female birth control pill and lack of funding for the male version sends a clear message... even within the freedoms of reproductive choice, women remain subject to society's assumptions about sex...
I don't make the rules... I just play by 'em...
