Martha Stewart's lack of accountablity.
Yesterday i hoped Martha didn't go away to long but today after she addressed the media I wish they put her away longer. She didn't atake any responsblity for her actions and just plugged her fucking company then said "I'm not plugging my company". It was sickening and I wanted to vomit. She also called it a faimly matter and tried to play it off like she was a victim.
If I stole $50,000 from a bank without violence or a weapon and then lied about it do you think I would only get 5 months in prison and 5 months house arrest and then 2 years probation?
I also love that they are able to just walk out of the courtroom without being in handcuffs or escorted by cops after being guilty and sentenced.

If Martha Stewart goes to jail then that vile piece of shit Ken Lay should be castrated.
Her recipes are great.
My mom got my dad some sort of Martha Stewart blanket at some point in time.
i predict that key lay's gonna hang himself.
Its doesn't really matter, even as she sits in jail, she's still making mad cash off of all her merchandise and royalty checks. Its like she's been forced to take a mandatory vacation in a Club Med for crooks.
and I'm shocked that you're surprised she got off so easy. Name one celebrity besides Robert Downy Jr. whose served real jail time for a crime.
Not surprised just disturbed by her lack of accountablity for her actions. She showed her true self during that press briefing today. She is just as greedy as Ken Lay, her actions aren't nearly as bad but her morals are the same.
And Ken Lay aint hanging himself. If he was able to steal all that money from Enron employees then he no doubt feels no sorrow for his actions. And the fact that he is trying to blame it on underlings when he had the most to gain just shows how morally bankrupt he is.
I think there is a deeper problem here in America when companies only care about the bottom line and not about the quality of life of their employees and society as a whole. It's not just companies it's the government too. Cutting social programs to give tax cuts to the rich is a horrible trend and it just keeps getting worse. It's about time the people of this country get a grip on reality and realize this is not the kinda of trend that will make a better society for everyone.

im not saying Lay will hang himself because of guilt, I'm saying he's gonna hang himself when they sentence him for a couple dozen years.
i hope she comes out butch as fuck with prison tattoos

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - As she faces possible jail time, Martha Stewart invoked the name of Nelson Mandela, South Africa's persecuted anti-apartheid hero, saying "many, many good people have gone to prison."

That makes me sad she said that. How can celebrities stand to lie to themselves and the world like that?
she didnt lie. many good people have gone to prison. she's just not one of them.

I have a relative who did less harm to society than Martha's fucking TV show, let alone her criminal activities, and he's probably not going to be outside a prison for the next 15 years or so.
It's a classic case of innocent until proven broke, which is the standard in American justice. O.J. walked. Martha gets a slap on the hand. The relative in question didn't get anywhere near $50,000 when he robbed bank, but he did get 15 years to serve in Leavenworth once he's done with the rest of his Kansas time (he was on parole when he held up the bank).
And yeah, okay, he's a recidivist of the first order and society has to be protected, but that doesn't take the edge off the fact that criminals as dangerous or worse skate because they've got the dough to work the system.

um...dude, he held up a bank. there's a slight difference between holding up a bank and being-the-curtain scandals. I'm not saying Martha doesn't deserve more prison time, but I don't think your relative does, either.
Maybe penalties need to be issued on a dollar amount of damage done.
Or just get rid of the stigma of white collar crime. If i was president I would make it known that there is no longer such a thing as white collar crime. Crime is crime. And no more club feds either. Vote Gonzo.

no more hate crimes, either. a crime is a crime, whether you're attacking someone for their skin color or their bank account or their sexual orientation.

My relative did the crime, no reason he shouldn't do the time. In fact, I thing he violated his parole that way in part because he's so scared of the outside world. He used a fucking B.B. gun and did nothing to hide his identity. When I saw the security photo in the paper, it was like, 'Damn, that's it for him.'
The mandatory sentence thing is what accounts for a lot of the injustice. Judges have no discretion with a lot of crimes, and federal sentences have to be served to 85% or something before parole is possible. Politicians love mandatory sentences for shit like drug posession and bank robbery. So even though Martha Stewart may have done more than get away with a few hundred insured dollars, she gets almost no time for it.
That's really my beef, is if you can't let a guy who's mainly a threat to himself out because of sentencing guidelines, the rich country club types that commit white-colar crime should be subject to the same.
Which gets to my perpetual point that America is addicted to incarceration. We love to lock people up, especially if they're poor or black or something like that. Prison as a growth industry. It's fucking disgusting.

Gobbless America!
