Hmm this is probably the only crowd in the world who could actually enjoy this book on all of it's twisted levels. Go out to the internets and look for a book called Suicide and Attempted Suicide by Geo Stone. It might not be worth the 200-500$ but it's worth downloading or a venture to the library.

Did you know that in the time it took you to write that you could have just gone to amazon and looked for the book? And ya I am feeling a bit lazy. I mean Im supposed to be working right now so I can only put in so much effort.

As far as calling her an idiot, I still stand by my political opinion. Growing up with illegals all around you gives the unique perspective on how much their life still sucks. Though I have to say it was fun being only one of 15ish white kids in a school of almost all Hispanics. It's where I learned to be a long distance runner

Well put. (Except for the part about Six being a "sir.") Here in North Carolina, we've had a massive hispanic influx in the last decade or so. It has really changed the atmosphere of the state. Mostly, for the better, as far as I'm concerned. You can get amazing Mexican food right in the middle of my little hometown, and there are beautiful Mexican ladies everywhere. I was never too attached to the whole Mayberry R.F.D thing we had when I was growing up anyway. I like the fact that the ol' hometown has a little spanish flavor now. And my hispanic students are some of my hardest working and most respectful. They are usually quite self-conscious about their limited English and are always working to improve it. Of course, none of my comments really apply to the legal vs. illegal immigrant issue, I guess, so much as immigration in general. But, all I'm saying is I understand why they would want to come to the United States, either legally or illegally.

I've been working jobs with my father as a contractor for about eight years now, with a myriad of illegal Spanish speaking workers.
And you know what?
After eight years, my Spanish is pretty fucking good. My fathers is fluent. And while not perfectly, I can at least communicate with them successfully. The large majority of the spanish speaking population in my area couldn't give a fuck less what language you speak, and will continue to not only speak to you in Spanish but more often than not actually HARRASS people around them because they're confident we don't understand.

I smells like sewer every where and you are lucky if you have 4 walls and a roof and there are often times more then 2 family's living in an area. Can you blame these people for trying to live a better life? Sure they don't do it legally but tell me where they are supposed to get the info on how to immigrate properly? And if there have been times when you would kill for any of the jobs they have you must not have many skills. I am sitting here in a 900$ chair staring at 2 monitors in my own office and guess what? I have no college degree, hell I was a C student in high school.

The language thing get annoying some times but chances are you are just bitching about accents. I hate that I can barely understand the kid working the McDonald's window to but it's not cause he doesn't know English, its the fact that he just has a damn accent.

And funny thing is after growing up in New Mexico, working along side Hispanics, and having Spanish as a required class in almost all of my school years I can barely speak it. I can speak enough to not starve to death or shit my pants but that's about it.

While I don't advocate people coming over illegally, I really don't think it's that big of a damn deal. se poco ingles y un 20% de cada pagina tengo que tomar el diccionario y es una tarea un tanto dificil, pero creo que los libros bien valen la pena, mi traduccion sera pesima, me imagino, y es un tanto raro aprender ingles, con Chuck, pero que le voy hacer...
De momento he leido cerca de 20 paginas pero comence la semana pasada... igual y cuando lo termine podre postear en ingles, tal vez nadie entienda la palabras que ahora escribo, pero creo que son una capsula de tiempo para cuando termina de leer los libros, consegui aca diario, una novela y el club de la pelea, me sorprendio su estilo narrativo y el manejo de los personajes. bueno chauu

Yes. They come here for the jobs, not necessarily the education... they come to make money. They get the education if it helps them make money, I think, so they can, uh, get better jobs and make more money to feed themselves and the tons of people in their family. So I'd say they do indeed come here for the jobs, and some do have jobs that other people wouldn't want... and then some get retail jobs as well, yes, that could go to some teenage kid.

Six, the conditions in Mexico are abysmal. I don't necessarily think you're ignorant or anything, but your argument borders on it. It doesn't just smell poorly.. there is hardly any drinkable water. There is hardly any decent shelter. There is hardly any government support. There is hardly, well, anything. I'm not saying that that means they should all come here or whatnot, but the Mexican government really does suck and hardly helps their people at all.

As far as illegal immigration as a whole goes, there's an awful lot of shit going on caused by some, not all, of them. For instance drunk driving is pretty bad, and those people should be jailed, then deported, in my opinion. Also the people who insist on driving that don't know English and can't read the signs... they get caught like that, they too should be deported. Putting innocent lives at risk because you want to go dig your ditch for 3 bucks is beyond heinous.

Short of the criminals and morons, though, it'd be nice if they did learn English, but I don't think it'd be an easy thing to do without some funding behind it, which would mean taxes for us... then there's the whole medical care issue, hospitals either leaving them to die because they don't have insurance and it causes real citizens to get taxed or treating them and making the rest of us pay for it... and the tax issue itself, the fact that they don't have to pay taxes because they're here illegally...

It's a big mess. All politics are messy as hell.

We're goin down in a spiral to the ground. This could go on for a long time. You both have very valid points. I have a best friend who sends almost all of the money he makes back to his family in Mexico. He went to college in Mexico City. His brother is a pharmacist. He tries very hard to learn our culture and his English has improved so much in the years that I have known him. He is like a brother to me. He would agree with Six on most of this. He believes that everyone should get a chance here, but if it's not being taken advantage of, they should be returned. Sounds sensible to me.

Construction and landscaping jobs pay very well, better than anything you can get on a college campus, and are disproportionately held by illegals, who don't pay taxes. If my income tax goes to pay the for the medical care of someone who doesn't pay those taxes, and makes more money than me to boot, it's not racist or naive or simplistic for me to be pissed off.

There are places in NM and CA where, if you didn't have a map, you would literally think you were in Mexico. I mean English is spoken in maybe half the stores, predominately Spanish store signs, the whole bit. It's not like every single illegal works hard to learn the language. You ever see an illegal alien on any news show who didn't need an interpreter? Yeah, me neither.

Ehh we do penalize employers. Well at least we do in Nevada. The casinos here are the big offenders and the get fined hundreds of thousands. The problem is they save money from hiring illegals and paying then less and getting fined then hiring citizens. It sucks but that's how it is here.
