[Insert Minority Label here] History Month
Yeah lets celebrate... What label was this month on our political correctness calendar? Ah yes: Black History Month.
Time to See American History X, Malcom X, and whatever X and celebrate how racism and other ghosts from the past have faded, since you know we now celebrate each others labels... i mean minorities (except an obvious one or few).
Would someone torch the guy with the finger, yeah the communist cuban or whatever guy who is displayed in a grafitti somewhere, he is dead already?, good.

Why are blacks the only minority to have their own damn month? I always think that when February comes around and every damn channel on TV has little clips of famous black people and for some reason half of the time when you hear February it's followed by "...which is Black History Month". Let's change February to "history month". Fuck races.
Because they're the only racial minority with enough notable contributions to AMERICAN HISTORY to warrant their own month.

Why does it even have to carry the label of black history month? is there a Irish-American History Month or any other history months that are not considered a minority?

Randomthought, Blacks are not the only minorities with their history month in the US. Also is not exclusive of race, there is also gender, as in a month for Women in History of the US.

There's a Native American History Month (in Nov, I think)
Pacific Islander Month (June or July)
Womens Month (fuck if I know, but I know it exists)
I"m sure there's more too....

Yeah if you want to go back to being a "minority" apart from the rest of the history, when you are only going to be remembered for a month, sure help yourself. It would be counterproductive, i don't think a group with so much influence would need a month for that.
I think the biggest slap in the face of all the labels is the gender thing, since we all came from a woman, yet women are a inferior group in reference. Yeah and i am sure they made a lot of sense to just give them a month. [jerk] We men have a full year, lets pretend we give them a month. [/jerk]

indeed. being given a month of historical rememberence is sort of like getting your historical status downgraded. it's the "moment of silence" given to those groups we're having the hardest time keeping under foot. 'a week not long enough? have a month' then whisper 'you still don't get the other 11 sucka'. what will we do once we run out of months? start doubling up? or will we just downgrade them again and again until it all fits conveniently?

All minorities are in some way in a reservation mentally just like the native americans are. They are given a little space to show their culture and they are content.
Why?
Because the minority in a way likes to be a minority. Wants to differentiate from everyone else, and when things like these false acceptance practices are made they are the first ones on the parades, celebrating not caring for the real message: you only exist from start to the end of this month.
Of course the also exist on election time when a vote and those gullible stereotypical minds are easy to preach to.

i think you're confusing majority with "minority majority". they do stand to become one of the "minority majorities" probably within a century.

Yeah but don't count on them being the sharpest of knives out of the minorities, don't even count on them participating in elections that much. Except of course the ones who vote and follow a candidate only because he gives his speeches in "Español"
I all hangs in the balance with those of my generation. Either they repeat their parents steps in speaking bad spanish and english, working dead-end jobs, or not working at all or they could get smarter, learn to type, speak and somehow make their presence felt other than storming a parade with flags of countries they have never seen or know what is like to live in them.

I'm sure there was a rational thought somewhere in there, but I'll be damned if I can find it...
Ideally, Black History Month would be unnecessary because black history would be incorporated into regular history.
Unfortunately that just isn't the case, and a designated month that suggests a focus on black history sure as fuck beats the state forcing x amount of the curriculum to focus on black history.
