Impeaching does put some gov't power structures in flux.

Whoo we're famous!

Seriously though, the situation in Romania right now is far from funny, and the fact that the referendum has not yet been invalidated (because "there are no databases which can tell how many people can vote") and won't be for the next month, until the Constitutional Court meets again, we're fucked. Economically, politically, socially, everything-ly.

I'll comment more tomorrow but all I have to say now is be careful who you want instead, because in our cases, the "other camp" are the descendants of the former Communist party and that is not okay.

Not to be misunderstood, I am totally behind the possibility and right to impeach a president (or send a former primer minister to jail for corruption, like we did two months ago). I just don't think it should be used irresponsibly. I know most, if not all, politicians are corrupt, I know the positions gives you a certain amount of freedom and imunity, but sometimes stability has to be more important. Yes, our president sometimes gave himself more prerogatives than it was constitutional (we're a semipresidential country, which means he can dissolve the Parliament, block laws etc), and sometimes did more of a prime minister's job, but the only real and relevant alternative is so scary and NOT what we need right now, that I see no way why he couldn't finish his mandate. Supposedly they'll be counting votes and checking voting lists until September, so I can only hope fraud will be detected, because the ex-opposition, now-majority party has rigged the elections massively - there has been a county with 184% voting presence. I know the European Union is a different concept from anything the US can experience and imagine, but we need stability right now, when the euro-zone countries are in deep shit, when the euro is so unstable, when countries like Greece are almost bankrupt. The euro has gone up and everyone is affected. Here's a funny chart:

It says "Euro-leu parity, April 2012-July 2012 (source: the National Bank's website)"
The first column is the independent prime minister named after the protests in early spring, the second is the Socialist prime minister named after the independent/technocrat government fell, and the third is the Socialist prime minister + interim president after Basescu's impeachment. Self-explanatory, I'd say.

Wow, such a block of text for a country no one cares about. But maybe some can learn from our mistakes.
