How will you celebrate when John Kerry wins the election?
I'm gonna jump up and down the room and throw something through the window.
You will never be famous.
Ya gotta have faith.
You will never be famous.
i'm going to try my damndest not to wake up from the glorious dream that Bush II was voted out of office...
I'm going to do what I'm doing now. I'm going to cry because both George W. Bush and John F. Kerry are, according to the two major political parties, the best this nation has to offer. I hate both candidates, but I think Democrats and well, just liberals in general, are so fucking caught up with how absolutely inept and incompetent Bush is, that they have never stopped to think that Kerry isn't exactly a bright shining light of hope himself.
The best thing that can come from a Kerry presidency is four years of gridlock with a Republican Congress. The best thing that can come from four more years of Bush...well nothing...I'd rather just not think about that. Either way, I want both of those numbskulls to keep their grubby little hands off my country until a real leader and visionary comes along.

well said.
i'll probably just get on with life, be unsurprised if either bush or kerry wins. i'm in this bitch for the long haul, not the short pay off.
Yes, Parkaboy, that's exactly what I meant.

What's the short pay off then, a single election?

It's ok if you don't like Kerry anymore than Bush, but don't pretend that you won't feel at least some relief and comfort if Kerry wins.

itll be nice having bush out of office, but i dont think the country will get any better. we're still going to spend $400 billion dollars on the military, and we're still going to let our kids grow up stooopid and uneducated, and i'm still not going to have goddamn healthcare.

That could be a long wait. When, or rather who, would you say was the last leader with vision in this country?
Or any country?
The problem, as I see it, is vision is not the order of the day as too many interests and having to address too many diverse concerns eventually means that one cannot hold true to any real vision and still remain electable.
There is this, Norwegian economist I believe, who got together a consortium of experts in various fields and came up with a proposal that should not be revelatory, but was.
It was simply that you have to make some drastic priorities. You have to pick your battles to make real headway in any of the issues facing the planet. Want to end world hunger?
Well, great, lets let the wahles take care of themselves for a while then.
It's much harsher than that, it came down to cure AIDS or end world hunger, pick one. You can't do both at the same time.
But the West, particularly America continues to plod along because our political system has evolved into PAC's and Lobbyists and pimping for campaign money so that a bunch of more tertiary issues, or even more central ones vie for the limited attention and resources of the machine itself and thus no real change is effected in any sort of precipitate timetable. This is why you don't see scientists out in the desert coming back with atom bombs and Apollo rockets any more, now they have to answer to twelve oversight comittiees, two administration changes, and public scrutiny before they just get cancelled alltogether.
You stick the kind of minds who were at Los Alamos out there today, answering to one man, and say here: go cure this AIDS thing. I fucking bet you they do, on time. Huge budget but you get the cure. Splitting the atom was a mich beigger step than that.
But instead we spread out resources to things like anti-smoking PSA's and the FCC.
Now that's a good fucking plan.

I'm going to grow a huge bush of public hair, smell bad, and wave useless protest signs outside my school because I really feel the plight of starving children around the world, as per instructions from my Democrat masters.
Fucking politics.

I agree. Its become such in the civilized world that the executive branch or top position in any nation does not conform to the person, rather the person is molded for the position. Still, I have my fingers crossed that someday that leader might come along..for better or worse.
To answer your first question: its hard to say. I mean, the last leader of this country, I honestly feel, was Richard Nixon. Sure, he was an evil, corrupt old bastard, but he managed to cling to his throne for some time carrying out his own plans despite being overwhelmingly hated...just like King Richard III. Prior to that, I would say JFK, but neither of those two hold up to the bar, which I honestly believe, was set by Teddy Roosevelt.
Everything about Teddy Roosevelt just kicked ass. He carved up corporate America, at least attempted to protect the working man. Was a very strong military leader who was an advocate of both the Spanish American War and World War I, but never shied away from using diplomacy when it best suited the interests of, if not the world, then the American people as seen with his peaceful negotiations in resolving the conflict between the Russians the Japanese. Not to mention that he was one mad dog of human being, managing to give an entire speech right after a failed assasination attempt in which an assailant shot him in the chest.
Thats the kind of leader America needs. A progressive who isn't afraid to take the gloves off and lay the smack down on anyone that threatens America or its people (I know I'm descending into a chest thumping machismo rant now, but what the hell, this is a Chuck Palahniuk site, afterall). A man who is willing to use diplomacy, but not hide behind it. And a man that would take those Enron fuckers and string them up by their pasty, white testicles. In short, a guy with charisma, intellect, and balls.
Too often I think the stereotypes have been that Democrats have big hearts, but no courage, and that Republicans are the warriors, but with absolutely no soul. If you could find a man that has both a soul and balls who actually stands a shot in hell of winning the U.S. Presidency, I'll show you America's next great leader.

My theory is that such a person will emerge, but not from the party system. It will be something we haven't seen before, some weird hybrid of tech and aggressive meme marketing. the internet for one. And, it might not be here in America where it happens. But I think the planet is ripe for the mergence of such a figure and the global community could get behing him/her becuase of the connectivity technology now affords ven if it's more voyeuristic than participatory at this satge, despite people's belief to the contrary.
Teddy Roosevelt was a hell of a guy. That bullet went through his speech didn't it? And that's what prevented the wound from being fatal?
Am I right on that?

Baby-steps, dude...
It's not easy having a good time.
Even smiling makes my face ache.
$400 billion dollars could go a long way, babysteps or no.
Clinton spent less money on the military than the Reagan/Bush/Himmler regime, Kerry will spend less than Bush's Idiot Son would.

but will kerry spend it in a useful way? prolly not. besides, i'm pretty sure as soon as the terrorists hit us again all the money that wasn't going to be spent on the military will end up going there anyway.

I suspect Kerry will spend at least a portion of that $400,000,000,000 on education for Alex and all the others who cannot spell his name. Karey? Sheesh.

i tried to change it before i was caught. Kerry, Karey, Carey, Carrie, Carry, what does it matter. if he was a worth a shit candidate or had a worth a shit name, i'd make a mental note to spell it rightly.

Clark is Count Von Stauffenberg.
Powell is Steppinfetchit all the way. He shucks and jives for the cameras and is allowed to sleep in Massa's house at night.

...by taking a big, steaming shit on the hood of this car with a Bush/Cheney 2000 bumper sticker on it...oh, that's gonna be such a relief...
This is a really good idea.

I agree that the internet could play a part in the emergence of such a person, but then again, with more and more legislation attempting to get passed in both Congress and in the U.N., maybe not. The thing that makes the internet cool, to me, is because its still like the wild west. Only instead of tough-as-hell gunslingers, you have pimply faced nerds with viruses, and instead of Injuns, you have Koreans and Vietnamese clogging up Counterstrike servers.
And you're partially right. I'm not sure if the bullet went through his speech (it may well have), but what saved his life was his glasses case which always kept tucked in the breast pocket of his jacket. I still love that story. The guy tried to shoot him in the heart, but only succeeded in getting the bullet lodged in Roosevelt's chest, just short of his heart. So what does he do? Does he lay down or rush off to the hospital? Hell no, not Teddy. He goes in, gives a great speech to standing ovation, and then calmly sits down afterwards.

Nice try. I recall you sayng you come from a farm family (or "fam farmily" if you're the president); after 4 years of Bush's Idiot Son you have no money.
It's not easy having a good time.
Even smiling makes my face ache.
I am positive that my reaction after Nov 2 will be more Negative (if Bush Wins) than it would be Positive (If Kerry wins). And if the revoultion begins that night I will prolly join in (Just Kidding Tom Ridge). It will be a long night though because I'll be stuck at work with no tv and a radio.

My mother has an outside job but that's besides the point: farmers are always poor no matter what you do. Whoever is the president isn't going to affect that. Besides, we also have cool things like ivory and silver so I'll just bury those.
