Guns and paranoid citizens.

did i say your rate was higher? no, i believe i said that we have well over 4 times the number of people you do. if you want to infer from that, maybe infer something along the lines of group mentalities. since america has more populace, it's conceiveable that ther reason our rates are higher is due to "mob mentality". rates in the us are high, but that still has no correlation to how gun control, or lack of, affects gun related homicides.

Learned a good bit about that pysch classes. The attitudes of higher populations. Can't remember the 'term' for it the class was about 2 years ago. It's like the mob mentality but on a larger but more 'subtle' scale. As strange as that may sound.
So it's usually easier to ask for someone to explain what they mean with a stat or quote they may have on these boards rather than jump in someone's shit and try to talk down to them. Sometimes I may just say some shit not thinking you will all need it broken down for you. If I say some shit that may seem off the wall or a little out of play, just let me know, I'll break it down for you kindergarten style. But anyway...... carry on.

If it's about mob mentality, then a better solution would be Fear Control, instead of gun control. If live in a major North American city where loads of people don't even lock their doors. I don't lock my door, I never have. Might get robbed one day, might not. I'm not scared of being robbed so I don't own a weapon. I wouldn't buy a gun if there was gun control or not. I think guns should be a personal decision, but it just seems odd giving people easy access to weapons. A nine millimetre hand gun is not for hunting wabbits, it's for putting big holes in human beings.

I agree, I don't own a gun, have no need for a gun. I wouldn't mind there being a ban on certain types of weapons, but not all weapons. But I do lock my doors.

Part of me says ban em all. Part of me is ignorant and intolerant of other people's needs. Part of me says that if someone buys a gun for protection then they got it with the idea of shooting another person with it. Part of me says I don't what is best for everyone.

[QUOTE=gobo_fraggle_uk]if you'd read my posts (above), you'd know that I didn't argue for the removal of guns from US society, and I also pointed out that guns are allowed in other countries for hunting etc. but are more strictly controlled... what you're doing is called a 'straw man' argument - fighting a false opponent...
so: good for you too, but this is not related to anything i said.
and you think that just because i quote you i am only talking to you? did i say you were for removal of guns? no, you seem to be fighting an argument for something you don't believe in, with statistics of merely 2 countries.
and let me ask you, do you think it's even possible to remove all guns from a society? why argue an ideal which will most certainly NOT happen? there is no possible or conceivable way to remove all guns, even from just one nations...
Your NZ example (if correct) reinforces my point, re. homicide rates in US (that they are atypically high).

indeed. cheers mate.
