I don't understand how our country can do this type of stuff. These are detainees, they aren't prisoners that have been charged with anything... the majority of them usually don't end up having anything to do with terror, how can we let this happen, they have no rights, they can't even consult an attorney... oh my god this shit pisses me off, the Bush administration needs to stop...

it can happen because the world has shown america that the geneva convention means nothing, and that despite the lack of overwhelming evidence against the "Detainees" america will do as it has always done (check out the rounding up of japanese-americans during WWII, and the same of arab-americans during the gulf war, and nay ethnic group during any war america has been involved in) and since america is supposedly the "World Power" none would dare actually threaten america enough to stop.
being the president has lost a lot of the risk that used to keep people from running for said office. perhaps we should give more risk to presidency, and less prestige.
I think tryp and I are the only people on this board who actually voted for Bush.

i don't vote, ever, literally. nevertheless, i lean toward the republican platform if that helps. that said, i am embarassed that our president is in fact our president.
the united states isn't a republic, nor is it a democracy. it is in fact an oligarchy, controlled by a military industrial complex that has grown since the end of world war two and is sadly unaccountable for its actions.
lastly, i hope we here are all aware that practically EVERY country has ILLEGALLY held people against their will at some point or another. the USA is not the only offender.
But we at least could change our policies, even if other countries do it does that make it right?
