France self-destructs
So what is it now?
12 consecutive days of rioting?
Franc, if you're around, what's your take on this? I heard someone on the radio saying that gangs have been having car burning competitions since the early nineties.
Was La Haine a documentary? This is madness...

i was in court today with this hot chick from australia who had "take me out to the ballgame" as her cellphone ring, and i found that very amusing. also, it was really cute the way she called the judge and the cop dickheads.

why are you at the court all the time... to pick up chicks?
no, that's what abortion clinics are for. i was there for my 2nd-to-last official assraping by the government of the great state of california. i've finally finished jumping through hoops to give them their goddamn $10.
did you at least vote while you were there?
do what now?
well if you didn't vote no on 73.. you're missing out on hitting on those hot under-aged chicks getting abortions
well if you didn't vote no on 73.. you're missing out on hitting on those hot under-aged chicks getting abortions
voting. pshaw. it's all just wivestale nonsense, i say.
So....how about those French eh?
Good thing they're to busy burning cars to assemble any guillotines!
I played LA HAINE yesterday in the videostore last night in 'honour' of the riots. It's fucked up, but French police are prolly the biggest gang themselves. I'll be in Paris by the end of the month myself and I don't look forward to the rioting part.
The rioting is pretty much contained in the rough parts though, isn't it? Maybe everywhere else is fine. Where's Franc when you need him?
!

Yeh, it's in the areas of "urban degradation"
I think Franc is either dancing on the bonnet of a flaming Citroen, or trying to pacify the rioters with an impromptu screening of Au Revoir Les Enfants round his gaff...
Do you think there's going to be a revolution? I sure hope so. I hope this is the beginning of the end.
!
On Wednesday, police reported a drop in the level of violence across France as a whole, with the number of cars set alight falling to 617, hundreds fewer than the night before.
Fucking crazy. I'm sure FT is hunky dory, though.

It's in the ghettos yeah, but you can imagine the vibe that's around the 'well off' areas. Or the looks the young people will get in the streets.

Alex, again you made me laugh.
well if you didn't vote no on 73.. you're missing out on hitting on those hot under-aged chicks getting abortions
Oh my! I am shocked by our words Mary. Shocked I say!
As for France - I think it's a precurser to events to come around the world. There is a growing disparity between the rich and the poor. It seems that the US and her capitalist allies have become what the Communists used to say about us in the cold war era. "America is run by corporations and only cares about money."
The prejudice against muslims around the world is out of control. These people have been getting fucked recently because the other two main religions run the world. They've been reduced to being a second class religion and 2nd class citizens. Probally a little tough to take since they have such such a long and rich history.
Poor young people that come of age with little to no opprotunity are cranky. And with a very good reason. I mean, how much shit can one person take. How much shit can one group or neighborhood take?
I grew up poor, but not beat down. I wasn't discriminated against for my skin color or religion or lifestyle. Now that I am an adult I feel I have every opprotunity to do anything.
I'm lucky.
Rioting and destruction of private property is wrong. Protest is fine if done in a way that doesn't fuck up others lives.
I need to read up a little more on this issue. I admit that I haven't been paying too much attention to it.

I don't mean to codone it, but I don't see how just sending out flyers is gonna make the powers that be listen you know? These kids are striking out and they're striking out hard.
Reckless yeah.
It'll soon be over. Now to know if it sparked some actual change, that's another question.

You in Paris Franc?
No, I'm on the West Coast.

France, well Paris, is known for rioting but 12 days is the long haul.
Glad you posted this Riddle. I've been in reclusive bumblefuck and haven't' heard anything about it.

I hear ya. I don't think that anyone in thier right mind would condone burning the neighbors car to get a point across. There are ways that are effective to petition the powers that be. Those ways are organized and NOT spontainious. They take time and need leaders. Perhaps some folks will rise up and lead these people to a productive resolution.
This is something that's not gonna go away soon. Sure the rioting and all the fucked up shit will die down, but the feelings and reality of life are still going to remain.

The very same thing was brewing ten years ago. Shit ain't gonna change and leaders will be squashed.
Sad, but true.
I'm just glad that it's bringing attention to the problems Paris has with racism. Friends have told me about how anti-semitic Paris is and has been. Back in the day (and maybe still) French would talk down to us Americans saying we had slaves... they'd say, " we love black people" as they put up nudes of Josephine Baker in their hotel rooms. Like exoticizing the black woman isn't racist at all. Even their most prized legendary icon of the 60s - Serge Gainsbourg... had to change his name to something less Jewish.
Seeing as I mentioned La Haine, I thought I'd post this link from Mattieu Kassovitz giving his take on the riots.

He rather be content with being Amélie's beau and just keep his mouth shut.

Dear Mary,
it's much better to express yourself on things you know something about, instead of throwing in half baked clichés. Which is why I very rarely express myself on politics in foreign countries, especially the USA.

you're right man. I totally agree. I only know of what close friends have told me when they lived there and visited there. Even if it's a "cliche".. there is some truth to it. Racism does exist in Paris... that was my main point.

Not to say the least of it existing in the United States of America. But that's another discussion.
Franc, what's your gripe with Kassovitz? He didn't make anything decent aftet LA HAINE (albeit ASSASIN(S) having it's moments), but his heart appears to be in the right place.

I thought he was great in "A Self Made Hero"!
And I guess we can throw Amelie in there...
Kasso is a fine actor (he's excellent in A self made hero and Amélie), but La haine was plain stupidity and dratuitous virtuosity (didn't bother to see his other films). As I said before, THE film about "la banlieue" is Raï (Thomas Gilou), that came out at about the same time as Kasso's turd, but without the media circus. Of course it bombed.
And Brownie, if he can put his heart on the side of people destroying primary schools and throwing bricks at firefighters (on a regular basis, not just during the recent riots), that's good for him.
Personally I'll save my heart for better purposes.

La Haine was great!
Maybe it's French.

It's frustration that's being dealt with in LA HAINE. It's youth lashing out recklessly. The Hubert character is the only one trying to make sense of it and trying to do the right thing.
It may be a age thing.
The links give some perspective.
