Moore Documentary Gets U.S. Distributor
By GARY GENTILE, AP Business Writer
LOS ANGELES - Michael Moore (news)'s award-winning documentary "Fahrenheit 9/11" has picked up a U.S. distributor and will hit theaters June 25.
The film will be released by a partnership of Lions Gate Films, IFC Films and the Fellowship Adventure Group, which was formed by Harvey and Bob Weinstein specifically to market Moore's film.
Moore's film, which recently won the top prize at the Cannes Film Festival (news - web sites), criticizes President Bush (news - web sites)'s response to the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and connects the Bush family with Osama bin Laden (news - web sites)'s.
The Weinsteins, who run Miramax Films, bought the rights to the movie from The Walt Disney Co., which owns Miramax and refused to distribute "Fahrenheit 9/11."
The Weinstein brothers will personally finance and control distribution and marketing, they said Tuesday.
"I am grateful to them now that everyone who wants to see it will now have the chance to do so," Moore said in a statement.
"On behalf of my stellar cast — GW, Dick, Rummy, Condi and Wolfie — we thank this incredible coalition of the willing for bringing 'Fahrenheit 9/11' to the people."
Disney chief executive Michael Eisner said the company "did not want a film in the middle of the political process" because he believed that theme park and entertainment consumers "do not look for us to take sides."
In a settlement reached last week, the Weinsteins repaid their parent company for all costs of the film to date, estimated at around $6 million. Any profits from the film's distribution that go to Miramax or Disney will be donated to charity.

I believe I called this. Harvey and Bob know this film can make gobs and hopefully theater chains don't copitulate like Disney did and not let the consumer decide. I love hearing right wing radio bad mouth Moore and never having good examples of his so called 'lies'. And then I watch Crossfire and Tucker gets on people for liking Moore when Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, And Mike Savage all have huge followings in the right wing s community and they are insane. They talk about droppping nuclear weapons on coutries and Moore just questions the president for flying Bin Laden's family out of America after 9-11 and he's the crazy wacko one.

two good documentaries in one month? waht teh fcuk?

now let's just hope they actually play it in a theatre near me
i guess if nothing else it will be for sure at the Angelika at least so no worries
man i love that place[/QUOTE]
that whole area is awesome. i've got too many memories from it.
All this press may hurt the movie. There's been such hoopla about this that if it isn't a hit by regular movie standards then all the right-wing nutters in the media will be all over it, calling it a failure and evidence of how America has rejected the liberal media's anti-Bush propaganda and the Hollywood elites who are so out of touch with real people and I feel like scrubbing with a wire brush for an hour for even typing this fucking insanity.
It's a documentary, breaking $10 million is considered blockbuster for a typical doc. There are expectations that this film can't realistically meet.
It's not easy having a good time.
Even smiling makes my face ache.

Thankfully the NeoCons haven't censored everything. Looking forward to this film.

Call them and ask them to play it. That's what we did with Bowling for Columbine and a few other films with this one theater.
cool thanks

I've got that movie, its shit!
The directors had to go to court to prove that the actors were still alive. Banned in over 80 countries. My cousin, the idiot, got it on ebay for $200 (AUSD) and then gave it to me in a swap for requiem for a dream (I had two copies).
Blair Witch Project does kinda rip it off though... just a little.

There's enough bullshit GOP retards making themselves look bad that liberals don't need no fat-fuck-bringing-absolutely-no-solutions-to-the-table entertainment-type-of-propagandists to help the liberal cause. Don't put Moore on the side of the rabid yeller dog, he's a sensationalist as much as the media he bashes.

What does Mchael Moore being fat have to do with anything?
So If anyone tries to bring up problems with America they also have to act like they have solutions? Those people are called polticians and MM is not one of those.
Recognizing problems is the first step to solving them. No one else is bringing up these problems directly so I thank MM for doing it. I don't expect MM to have solutions that's not what he does, he does not run the country the polticians do.
Note to all pundits, reporters, and columnists, if you dont have a solution to a problem don't bother bringing it up in America because you will be criticized by people with idiotic logic.
sensationalist - someone who uses exaggerated or lurid material in order to gain public attention.
Isn't that the only way to gain public attention. He uses and manipulates the media like he should. What's the point of making a film if no one is going to see it? It's not like cinema verite is selling out in theaters. Even Errol Morris and Ken Burns could be considered sensationalist's by that definition.
He still uses FACTS to back up his films and there is no disputing that and if you try you have beter have evidence. I'm sick of people calling him a liar with NO EVIDENCE of it.

we're just too lazy and stupid to come up with any of our own solutions so if someone comes with word of falling sky unless they tell us exactly what to do we don't care or just get annoyed how sad is that (im no exception)
