China Announces Food Safety Rules
Looks like China ain't relying on the free market to solve its problems.
The Chinese government, struggling to contain the fallout from a scandal over contaminated milk and eggs, announced a wide range of food safety measures on Thursday aimed at reining in abuses in the dairy industry.
The State Council, China’s cabinet, issued several new rules it says will govern all aspects of the industry, from cow breeding and animal feed to the packaging and sales of milk.

I'm really glad of this. I spent most of last year being hypervigilant about this kind of thing. Two times did I have to throw away baby items (bibs and food) that had been declared potentially tainted. With all the stress of having children, moms and caregivers don't need the added worry that they're pumping lead into their babies.
There is hope, but not for us.
For me, this is an excellent example of why corporations need government oversight. Kinda sad that Bush has stripped the FDA of so much funding and resources. I look forward to Obama changing that.
