this thursday, noon pioneer square.

for those of you who dont know, the governor is proposing massive cuts to services to seniors and the disabled. these cuts included home delivered meals, in home care, and pretty much all care for the developmentally challenged. if these cuts happen there will be thousands of home-care providers out of work, and their clients in nursing homes. not only is this pretty much putting a dollar figure on the lives of disabled people, but its also saying we arent worthy of living full lives. these cuts are shameful, and they will be terrible for the already insane unemployment rate.

Is that so for like mentally disabled people too? I get assistance out here in Denver but I'm gonna move to Portland in a little while.

It would suck to come at such a bad time.

it really depends on the services you get. im unfamiliar with your situation, and i would need more information. PM me, and i will talk to you, unless you want to discuss the specifics publicly.

I'm all for those services existing, I just oppose the way the funds are raised for them.

disagree all you want, but the programs are in place, and people depend on them. let me put in t in a simpler context.
-there is a program that pays for senior's medication. regardless of their ability to pay. just cutting, or even limiting this program to the impoverished seniors (of which there are surprisingly few) would almost completely save the homecare system

- in this stater drug addiction is counted among disabilithie and therefore the government dime is paying some meth head's rent because they apparently deserve it more than me, a person with a REAL disability and NO DRUG PROBLEM who is trying to get off the system, and not milk the teat of the american taxpayer.

- dont even get me started on why head start is more important than me.

Just curious, what is it you are proposing the government do? Are they cutting the service because they don't have the money? Then what?

People are broke, and I can only think of one way government will get that $$$...with more aggression.

I don't mean to sound like I'm discouraging you from doing what you feel is right, it's just I don't see how using government to solve social issues will result in anything positive.

im doing this because the disabled and the mentally challenged are seen as "less of a political impact" than cutting head start and other programs which are considerably more luxury than whether or not i, or any of my disabled counterparts get hot meals and the other basic human rights of the rest of you receive.

if no one else will do it, then it does fall to people like me, the articulate and high functioning disabled to make sure that the weaker of us are treated as the human beings they are. call me an idealist, if you want to, but these are massive cuts that will put people in nursing homes, and put people who's only income in this economy is taking care of those people out of work. these cuts effect more than ten thousand disabled people, which equates to just as many caregivers.

the bottom line is that the economy, the nursing home system, nor the constitution can afford for these things to happen. and for the mentally and developmentally disabled they are already happening. those people got no warning whatsoever.
