Ahnold for President
Arnold Scharzanegggferegr wants to change the constitution so he can run for president in 2008.
I still can't believe he is governor of California. I have more about this topic to bitch about, but it's still too early to organize my thoughts. "americans are stupid" is in there somewhere.....

what wiould stop america from voting for arnold? he's better than bush.
I don't understand how or why anyone votes for him. "yeah, that other candidate had some good ideas and made some valid points, but Ahnuld was in that cool robot-from-the-future movie!!"
Maybe if he was elected president, he'd validate my "bush won because americans are idiots" argument.
Although, if Danny Devito was his VP runningmate, I might vote for him. That would be fucking hilarious. Even if they did totally fuck up the country, at least they'd provide some good laughs.

read my lips - never happen.
oh, and trypd, you hit the nail on the head: the race for the presidency is a popularity contest. and, now we know who's more popular. intelligence and ability have nothing to do with it.
didn't they go over this in demolition man ?

Right, I know this would never happen, at least I hope it would never happen, but in the odd case that it would, this would be my response:
No. No no no no no. Arnold as the governator is cute, it's to be expected. I mean, it's California for chrissakes. It fits to have him be the governor of tinsel town and all that. But president is just pushing it way too far. It's not longer cute if he's sitting in the white house. It's like a joke your friends keep pushing and pushing and pushing until it's not only not funny, it's really annoying. And the scary thing is that I have little doubt that he'd be elected. The American people would have only one thought when going to the voting booth. "Oh man, I loved that Terminator movie! *votes for Arnold*" No, president is taking it way too far.
To the California Cultists :
Do you have a comment on Conan's first decisions as a governor ?

change the consti-fuckin-tution? from what i understand, they've only added to it, but never taken from it. hardly even its advice.
schwarzenegger wasnt born a US citizen.
if he changes that, we're so fucked. fucked more-so than we already are.
which is why it wont ever happen.

you can change any part of the constitution with an amendment. You can even rewrite it with enough votes from the right people...whoever they may be.

Arnold's been way quiet as the governator. And for the record, I NEVER thought it was cute that he was running the state that I live and breathe in. Unfortunately, I couldn't vote at that time but, now I can.
I honestly don't think America would allow it. I fucking HOPE America wouldn't allow it. Can you imagine what would happen if he called some leader a "girly man?"
Running the world with an uzi, one bullet at a time.
The only thing going against him would be the fact that he was born in another country. The rednec...er red states would vote him in just on the number of guns he's used in movies over the years.
Wasn't Jerry Springer once Governor of Ohio? Could be wrong but I'm pretty sure about this one. Maybe he should run for Pres...

Yea, but he keeps commenting on it which makes a lot of us believe that he's gonna attempt it.
i saw him give the speech where he said (after he lost the bid for the senate seat) he was giving up on it. he really looked like he meant it. he seemed to look pretty worn out by it. i'm guessing he forgot how tough politics can be on a person, and learned that he's just not willing to go through it again.

mayor of cleveland, palomino. go to the modismos.
As a Californian (native) this is very interesting.
Arnold is not actually behind this campaign, its a private group that also what some other Canadian born Gov named Jen___ to be able to run.
Arold, in my opinion is doing okay. Not good but not bad. There is a couple of things that he has done that I have like but others I think he could do better. He seems like he is trying to boost the economy and get big business their breaks to have them stay in the state while trying to be people friendly. Its a thin line he walks but he has managed so far. Gray Davis biggest problem is that he was too union frindly. I am a member of the IAFF and even I though he was too much.(Enough of the CA politics)
President though? I dunno. Part of me says communism is dead and we need to let foreign born citizens have a crack at it. Shit it cant be any worse than W. But the other part of me says it should be American because thats like the privlidge of actually being born here.
If it makes the ballot Ill think hard and actually study it before I vote.
The real news is that the same group that got Gray Davis recalled is now tring to put a ballot measure on that redistricts the state( from current political districts) and puts it in the hands of retired judges. Fuckin republicans just cant take that they cant win California.
The rule that you have to be a natural-born citizen to be President is fucking idiotic. People need to check their fear of President Schwarzenegger and get behind changing this bullshit law. Especially since by the time it would get passed Arnold would be 70.
It's not easy having a good time.
Even smiling makes my face ache.

yea, there's been some talk of this since he got elected to governor of california. i seem to recall, dimly, arnold saying something (when he took the governor's office) to the effect that he didn't support said amendment, and he had no plans on the presidential seat.
personally, i'm thinking "bad bad idea". you'd have to take into account the fact that by 2008, arnold will have had only, at the most, 5 years of political service. that generally isn't tolerated in the political field, but as odd as it may sound, many people will overlook that. they'll cut him slack because he's ahnuld. next you'd have to take into account his past. most politicians recieve heavy heavy opposition in light of their recreational predilections. remember the big hooplah over clinton's admission that he had tried pot, but never inhaled? look at arnold's past- he openly admits to excessive drinking, he admits that he used to smoke a lot of pot, his steroid use, his promiscuity, and that's just what's publically known. i'd hate to see what he's hiding.
on the other hand, if he was able to run for president, i wouldn't be surprised to see him win, because he will be able to do no wrong. he's a cultural icon, to many people it would be a novelty, a popularity contest.
