Transubstantiate, the debut novel by Richard Thomas

RICHARD THOMAS SIGNS WITH OTHERWORLD PUBLICATIONS
http://www.otherworldpublications.com/apps/blog/show/2648367-otherworld-...
IT'S OFFICIAL
I can talk about it now. My debut novel, a neo-noir thriller called Transubstantiate, will be out in June of this year. I'm really excited that OWP wanted to launch their company on the back of my book. They are a husband and wife team, very smart, connected, and energetic. They love my book and are behind it 100%. It's a risk I know, new small press, but I'm optimistic and pumped up.
There will be 100 signed/limited hardcovers, as well as a much larger print run of paperbacks. I'll be talking about this everywhere, so I apologize in advance for the constant whoring of myself and this book all over the internet.
This group here, you have always been supportive of my work, and I owe my career to people like Craig Clevenger and Stephen Graham Jones who got me excited about my work again. The Write Club, here, The Velvet - so many really cool people who are constantly getting behind emerging artists. Do whatever you can, and don't worry, I'll come begging when it releases. I'll be hitting you all up for not only your hard earned cash, but for help promoting it on your blogs, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, book clubs, other forums, whatever you've got.
I think this is a really great book. It won't change the world or cure cancer, but I think it's a fun book, wild and sexy, fast paced and interesting. You'll get action, violence, sex, a bit of the surreal, the horrific, the fantastic, and the gritty noir that I've loved reading from the trio here.
Thanks again, and wish me luck.
Peace,
Richard

Richard, congratulations!
Look for an overdue email from me soon; we're gonna promote the hell out of this!
If you're a fan of noir, a fan of Lost, a fan of Stephen King, a fan of good writing, a fan of hot women, a fan of things cool...you will enjoy this book.
Also, how does one get dibs on an HC? Must I kill 99 other people?
Congratulations mate! This is huge, and you deserve it!
Looks like there's a growing list for hardcopies, but put me down if you can!
Typical generosity with your other link too - offering to share your experiences and knowledge. Hope I need to hit you up on that one day!
I'm excited for you, enjoy this.
Cheers, Davey

Congrats, Richard. I remember reading this novel from the Max Barry intensive. And I'll be happy to read it again, in its official, finished, published form.
And don't apologize for whoring your book. In the industry, it's not called whoring, it's called "creating buzz." I plan on doing the same thing if and when mine comes out, as we all should.
Good job.
Keith
Uncle Trash doesn't remember July, but when we tell him about it, he says it sounds like July was probably a good idea at the time.

Congratulations Richard. Im happy to say I know you Bro. Best of Luck.
I don't know if we've ever interacted before, but I have a HUEG (liek xbox hueg) soft spot for noir. I only had to read two paragraphs (usually I have to read the stereotypical "first five pages") to know that I'm placing a pre-order on this book. I also FUCKING HATE hardcovers too, but you deserve this, man. I'll probably just collect the hardcover and wait for a paperback (please tell me you're opting for trade and not MMPB) or three to hand out to people.
I sometimes wish I could whore my own stuff out, but I feel cheap and used.
DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDE
This old typewriter never fails to give me a rush of excitement. In this time of advanced technology and immediate satisfaction it relaxes me to pound away slowly on this ancient Remington Quietwriter.
I've got one of those too that I pound away at on my desk! Circa 1950s (the age I wish I lived in)!
I hate to nitpick... but it's "Quiet-Riter".
Either way, congratulations on this.
I'm with everyone else here. Can't. Fucking. Wait.
You'll get action, violence, sex,
All at the same time? This is where I was on board. Congrats man, anything I can do.
this is a beautiful wonder and well due
youre writing is strong always and you never relent, you keep the grind a close part of you. this sell certainly proves it to those who do not know your work. your work is a part of my life with jen. just one of those things that you can only know when a person mentions it. one of your stories--you do have so many--is about a man in a cellar and he hasnt seen the sky in so long that he only speaks, when he speaks, in vowels. he fixed robotics and held burdens. and the last line was something close to garble about a wonder if the sky is still blue. the last line read something like "wraave rue"
i love my wife with my soul and tender marrow. and i tell her i love her every day, every chance i get. we have cell phones and opposite schedules and she complains sometimes that she cant hear me all the way while we talk. over the passed half year or so, like a kind of an inside joke, mostly as a homage, when we say good bye after a talk late into the night, i garble words that phonically sound something like "wvrove wruev"
yeah, she's read at least two of your stories
she and i are both fans, and pretty soon your name will be a household name with both of us
congratulations and godspeed
..

“...There are so many ways of being despicable it quite makes one's head spin. But the way to be really despicable is to be contemptuous of other people's pain. You ought to have some apprehension that the man you see before you was once even younger than you are now and arrived at his present wretchedness by imperceptible degrees.”
-James Baldwin
indeed. im curious about the limited edition as well.
@ barca - thanks brother, i know i can always count on you

it's been a while since i read the ms--a lot has happened in that time ha--but the synopsis i read last night was pretty spot on. from what i remember of the book
i will have to reread it in its published state.
unless of course den or meerk would rather, as it is their website, their prerogative.

I think we are going with an in depth interview with Richard in the news, on the front page. A review and an interview might be a bit too aggressive. We do want to support and promote the book, and are working with Richard behind the scenes.
We would post the review, but not as news on the front page. That would be reserved for the interview. Cool?
Congrats Richard!! I had completely forgotten to add your link to my site, so consider it done. Looking forward to it. Will it be available in Europe?

oh my bad mirka, didn't think those would conflict, never mind then kabol, thanks though
@ mr. brown - thanks buddy, appreciate it

Ah, not to worry. I know you're just bursting with excitement.
We've only run an interview and review for the same book once, and it wasn't that great of an idea.
I am so happy for you!! I can't wait til I have my own (signed) copy!

that's what i was thinking.. i dont wanna horde any attention away from the author. from the work.
a review is what i will do on amazon. the cult has done fantastic work promoting authors they collectively love. even got baer's third novel published. reemerged pop interest in hempel's work, got clevenger a whole new following. i will review the fuck out of transubstantiate elsewhere, and later at the cult. in the beginning, let's let this be done by a website of this magnitude. i am proud of your work, your work ethic, your success. we will all be here if or when you could use us. youre here for so many of us day to day, uplifting, just being you.
congratulations on the work you fight to make

You're welcome! It was only a good catch because whenever I see a typewriter or read about one mentioned I'm always hoping it's the one I have! This time it was.
I've been caught up reading your blog and your short stories and everything else!
One thing I will say though in regards to your Print Vs Online blog entry... I love the dead tree format and kind of hate the digital format. Do you think that books are going to end up the way of vinyls (they're dead to most of the world), 8-tracks, cassettes, and videocassettes? Just another way to prove you're ancient and out-of-touch?
how you dug the stories online - i think there will always be books, people like to hold them, so as long as we have trees...also, i think what WILL change is the print methods, more and more presses will do small print runs, and then back those up with POD, so they don't have a warehouse of books they can't sell, but access if they do make a big sale (i.e., to Borders, B&N, etc.) - why pay for the books and risk it, and why spend money to warehouse them too? or take the hit when they don't sell at the brick and mortar stores

Buy this book.
I read an earlier draft and it was phenomenal. I can't wait to see this in print.
I'm pretty sure i've said it elsewhere, Richard, but you're the fucking man.
