ManArchy Magazine is featuring a new story of mine, called “My Dinner With Daniel Coletti.”
This one's more comedy than anything, and it’s live right here, courtesy of ManArchy.
Also check out the rest of the magazine for some great content. One of the tightest ships around for sure—everything about them is cool and I’m proud to be a part of it.
And of course there are lots of good things happening at Solarcide as well.

Hey i'm doing this contest thing so when you guys have a second, can you go rate my story because i think i have a chance of at least making the finals. You can read it if you want and do a proper review but it's cool if you just rate it. It's a five star story, don't worry.
Um...you forgot to put gloves on your girl. Lmao.
I honestly thought about writing that in.
Put that in the comments as your review, that would be funny.
Really though it only takes like 5 minutes. Only one person has reviewed it and HE DOESN'T EVEN READ BOOKS. Jeez.

My review of Amina Gautier's AT-RISK is now live at The Nervous Breakdown. Powerful collection of stories.

I'm not sure why nobody's voting or rating. Someone named Jessica did and it's either my ex girlfriend or the one who posts here. It's not at all difficult to vote and it really does only take a second. Do you guys dislike me that much? Am i just being annoying? I dropped from number 65 to number 89. Read the guy who's at number 42. Here are some quotes from his story:
Another day in school just what I need. I ran away from the teacher who was yelling at me for not having the “proper” uniform on. I don’t see why its not “proper” the guys get to where so why can’t I.
“And here is the gym come on lets get changed don’t want to be late coach get a little crazy” I let Ash dragged me to the girl’s lockers, which he went into as well he pulled me to the back and grabbed me a pair of shorts and a shirt.
I sighed thinking I mean she might not be avoiding me, but then again when she saw me coming down the hall, she turned the opposite direction away from me, but she may have not seen me, but then again she looked straight at me. Well I think she did, ugh this is frustrating. I was so distracted by my thoughts that I didn’t notice a guy running straight towards me I didn’t have enough time to move so I ended up sprawled out on the floor, I heard a whistle blow.
And he (or she) is rated above me! I don't even want to bother anymore! There's only so many times i can post this on Facebook so everyone can just ignore it! They're all busy posting "funny" pictures or updates on a space shuttle or something. Thanks for NOTHING.
That lesbian story is awesome. I just gave it five stars.
I haven't had time to read it
I'll see if I have time tonight.
Not only do you have to get your friends to vote, once the contest has picked their first weekly finalist, the ranking starts allll over again and you have to get your friends to vote allll over again. For like 6 weeks. That contest is flawed for so many reasons.
I forgot to mention this recent interview with yours truly over at the newly-relaunched OW III (formerly Outsider Writers). Discussing my books with the lovely Pela Via, I wax about evangelical terrorism, assholic TSA screeners, and my description of a sexual encounter with Minka Kelly (total cochlea tease).
“Music to Def Ears”: An Interview with Flashover Author Gordon Highland
And another thing! They deleted two of my reviews that were only one line but they were actual reviews, not fake ones. I emailed them and bitched about it and their contest and they emailed back and said they only delete reviews if there's profanity or the reviews had nothing to do with the story. Okay then assholes, where are my two reviews?? I have enough trouble getting people to review the damn thing as it is and they're off deleting the few reviews i do get. They did tell me though that longer reviews will give you a higher rating so i'll be spending as much time as i can writing reviews from my "friends". This contest sucks.
Any writing competition that's decided by public votes is a dealbreaker for me, because it's about popularity rather than writing quality, and I often think they're just publicity campaigns for the host site to up their pageviews or gain new members. I'd rather have a panel of experts decide if I'm any good or not, and not hassle my friends, cry wolf, etc.
The judges will pick four "wild card" nominees for the finals but even then, it's only four writers out of 200 or so who entered. That's the only reason i'm sticking it out. That and it's free to enter.
That "contest" sounds rigged to me, or at least very skewed.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Sorry, I haven't gotten around to reading it and I hate being one of those people that just goes and votes because I was asked to (the popularity thing).
I'm using this to my advantage. To quote Johnny Depp from the hit Robert Rodriguez film "Once Upon a Time in Mexico":
Bullfights. Bull hockey. Do you like this? The bull is stabbed, prodded, beaten. The bull is wounded. The bull is tired before the matador ever steps into the ring. Now, is that victory? Of course it is. Wanna know the secret to winning? Creative sportsmanship. In other words, one has to rig the game.

A generous and thoughtful review of Herniated Roots, my debut neo-noir collection of short stories, is now live over at ManArchy Magazine.
