My story over at Pulp Metal (woo)
Hi all,
Pulp Metal Ezine picked a piece of mine, Corridors, to go up on their site.
It's quite short, about 2000 words, but it's the first thing of mine to get the nod that is over a hundred words long, so I'm pretty chuffed.
And this one goes out for you guys for sure, this site has been such a massive help, I have learned more about writing here in the year or so that I have been a lurker/member than I ever expected to. This story was my first little project after I started reading the essays by Chuck and Clevenger, and was also the first thing I submitted to the workshop. (Special thanks to the people that reviewed it, I tried to incorporate some of your feedback)
So yeah, woo!
Peace
-Martin

Congratulations on this -I read it and liked it very much -particularly the part about "Some of these flowers stink." Very nice, seeing how it's the truth and you don't hear it often. Anyway good story.

Nice job, I liked it.
Wished you would have dabbled a bit darker though.

Thank you very much for the comments,

Yeah, heh, a few people have commented on that line, seems my general dislike of floral odours is not as uncommon as I thought.

Hmm darker yet you say? Whilst I think that this one was hardly light hearted, I welcome the challenge. A couple of the stories I'm working on at the moment are pretty morally bankrupt, maybe at somepoint in the future I can suitably depress you

Congratulations
Awesome man, congrats!
Congrats, mate. I've got a story over at Pulp Metal's slush pile at the moment. Would love to land a story there. They're putting out a lot of good, dark work, this included. Top shelf.
Cheers guys
@ Doc O'
Yeah I think Pulp Metal is right up a lot of people here's street. Best of luck with your story there.

Cheers. It's a story I workshopped here. It's a bit different now, tighter. But, I've had trouble placing it. It's definitely a bit strange and disjointed, but, to be fair, it's supposed to be. Just need to find an editor that vibing it. It's out at Pulp Metal, A Twist of Noir and Black Heart right now. Has been rejected by Islet, Shotgun Honey, Voiceworks, Bartleby Snopes and some others that I can't think of right now. If they don't take it, I'll definitely be sending them something else very soon. Keen to get published there.
A Twist of Noir and Black Heart
Two more for me to scope out there.
See there's another great thing about about this site, every week I am finding new places to check out.
And for the record, going on what I've seen, I'd say your stuff should fit pretty damn well with the vibe I get from Pulp Metal.

Yeah, I think so, too. But, this piece is weird. It's short (700 words). Non-linear. The narrator is about as unreliable as they get. It makes for a very vague, ambiguous narrative and I think part of the problem is working out what the fuck is going on, but I'm trying to stay true to the narrator's voice and leave a lot of it up to the reader to work out. And I'm standing by my decisions to do that. Anyway, we'll see.
Check out Shotgun Honey, too. They're a new online rag. Pulp. Crime. Noir. The caveat: has to be under 700 words. Definitely wanna get in them too. Theyre getting a fair bit of exposure, too. The Alley, a very cool crime blog keep linking their stories on their facebook and stuff.
I shall have a peek over there too for sure.
Sites like that get me through night shifts. Best time to read flash fiction, doesn't make me feel tired like reading a book does.

Oh yeah, for the record, I was quite surprised that this got published, as to an extent it was an experiment, a test piece if you like. I wasn't sure it was good enough but I sent it out to three or four places in pure speculation. I'm really glad it did though, as I spend bloody ages on it. (five re-writes in total, ha)
I got a bit of a telling off in the workshop for ending it where it where I did, people seemed to want it to carry on, and I tried several times to expand it but was never happy with the results. This is the only version that I have been happy with.
