Calling all writers: COLORED CHALK ISSUE 10!
Hey all you writer types. I'm the editor for the tenth issue of colored chalk (submissions close on Aug 31st). Colored Chalk has published some great stories from new writers (some of our very own Culties!) and established authors like Stephen Graham Jones and Joe Meno.
I waited a bit to post this because of the theme of our issue: The Ten Commandments. We're only accepting 10 stories this time (and for all you artists and photographers, if you have any visual work you wanna send my way, I'd appreciate it!)
Thus far, it's played out as I thought it would, most submissions covering murder, theft, and adultery.
I'd like to see what you all can come up with for commandments 1, 2, 3, 5, and 9. See the guidelines and official list of commandments at the link below.
Ye olde official blurbe:
Theme for Issue 10: Ten Commandments.
Submissions for this issue are open until August 31st. The issue will be released on September 30th.
I am the Lord your God. You shall have no other gods before me.
You shall not make for yourself an idol
You shall not make wrongful use of the name of your God
Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy
Honor your father and mother
You shall not kill
You shall not commit adultery
You shall not steal
You shall not bear false witness
You shall not covet your neighbor's wife. You shall not covet anything that belongs to your neighbor
Write a story dealing with ONE of the ten commandments: show us the benefits of breaking the rule, the consequences of following the rule. The rule doesn’t need to be stated explicitly in the story. This does not have to be Christian/Religious writing – think of “The Decalogue” series of films (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Decalogue) which each explore the meanings and consequences of a commandment.
Each author may submit up to TWO (2) stories, provided they deal with different commandments.
General Submission Guidelines are here.
Email your stories to issue10 AT coloredchalk.com by August 31st, 2009. Please indicate which commandment your submission is intended to demonstrate.
Simultaneous submissions are fine. Include any biography or cover letter information that you feel is important in the body of your email.
Please put "Ten Commandments" somewhere in the subject line of your email so that it stands out from spam messages. Fiction only, no poetry or nonfiction for this issue.
Word limit: 1200.
Thank you in advance for your submissions.
What say ye, writerly types?
