Call for submissions: Cockroaches Ate the Ending.
First, thanks to everyone who pitched in for issue 1, from the previews I've seen it's going to be a tough act to follow.
As luck would have it, the next theme chosen was mine, so I get to play editor. In the interest of getting this zine on a regular bi-monthly schedule, submissions will be open for six weeks, from now until the end of April. The zine will be published the last day of May.
Fittingly this theme is about keeping things going after they've been started.

Theme for Issue 2: Cockroaches Ate the Ending.
Kurt Vonnegut wrote:
Give your readers as much information as possible as soon as possible. To heck with suspense. Readers should have such complete understanding of what is going on, where and why, that they could finish the story themselves, should cockroaches eat the last few pages.
This theme is all about momentum. From its first sentence, your story should be moving and nothing should stop it from reaching its conclusion -- not even the truncation of its last few paragraphs.
If you have to explain how your story ends, you're using too many words. Focus on building the tension, not on how you want to release it. You should engage the audience in ways that they are cautiously certain of what will happen next, and then stop. Let that inertia carry them the rest of the way.
For an example of how one might interpret this theme, enjoy this classic video by RadioHead:

They caught me because of the blood on my fingers and between my teeth. I looked up from my meal on the tile of the kitchen floor and dropped her cold limb with a thud and minor splash and told them it wasn't me.
Why bump? The only other activity in weeks is the subject I started. It's not like this thread is going to drop from the first page, or even the first 3 subjects.
I say this in hopes of being proved wrong.
it's been gone for a while on the Recent Posts front page. That's when you click New Posts on the top navigation bar. i'm looking forward to issue 2.
also, when i edited the first post, it doesnt show any change in jase's email account. adding a post sends him a direct email note that there's been a change in the thread. plus, the last activity on this thread was 4/22 and it is now 4/24. pretty active thread. also, as damien pointed out the thread is now "bumped" back into the recent posts page one.

Kabol - Someone edited my first post somehow? Sheesh I missed that. Does this mean somebody guessed my password or something? Either way thanks for taking... whatever it was... down.
I don't have the original post backed up anywhere, but I'll dig up the Velvet version and repost it that way. They were pretty similar if I recall correctly.
i really dont know, jase. the velvet is getting hit with some spam right now as well. tis the season, i guess. happens every year, but only a little bit
thankfully
