Yet another new member
Well, I've been reading Chuck Palahniuk's work for a few years now, and I've been lurking around this forum for a couple of weeks, and then I decided, "what the hell" and I joined in.
I come from a really small town in southwestern Oregon. I've yet to attend a reading or anything, though I have hopes to see the one in Eugene on November fourth.
Soooo...yeah. I am new. I bet you already figured that one out. I've nothing else to say. Maybe later.
I am mad with the power!
Golly, such a responsibility. I'll see what I can do.
I am mad with the power!
you're not taking me seriously are you?
No, I was being funny.
I am mad with the power!
woo-hoo! me too!
go us.
....
you probably hate me now, right? anyway, welcome.
love the avatar.
Yes, I hate you. You will tremble before my hate. Oh, yes...tremble. If you were here, you can be sure that I'd be shaking my fist...IN ANGER...in your general direction.
I am mad with the power!
=D
congratulations, you've passed the ultra-secret hundred year sacred Cult test that i just made up right now just this second.
----
c'mon, give us something good. have you read all of Chuck's stuff? what's your fav book of his? c'mon, you know you want to tell us.
I've read them all but Fugitives and Refugees (I was once reading it in a bookstore when I had no money, but my friends dragged me out, and then I couldn't find it when I had money...bastards)...I have trouble picking a favorite, because I am horribly indecisive. Changes a lot. Survivor and Invisible Monsters I'm pretty enthralled with right now. Soooo...as of this second, let's pretend I said those two! Yay!
My mom bought me Lullaby for Christmas last year and got Chuck to autograph it. He also gave her a cross-shaped lollipop and a tube of pink body glitter. She gave them to me. I've never used a-one of them.
His handwriting fascinates me. Is that just me?
And, uh...yeah. I've been writing random stories my whole life and have been trying to work on a novel recently. And by that I mean for the umpteenth time. Ever notice if you read something by Chuck and then try writing more on your own stories, you sometimes lapse into Chuckstyle formats? Evil.
Sooo...I've seen you through my lurking. In that case, I'm kind of like a stalker. Do you feel the fear?
I am mad with the power!
you write a lot? kick ass. i bet i can beat for the pure number of times i'm started a new novel. i started one just today even (seriously). check out the Writer's Workshop and submit something!
man, everybody and your mother gets to meet Chuck, except me.
i am Jacks' raging jealousy.
...you've been stalking me? i feel something, but it ain't fear!
Oh, man, no one fears me anymore. My life is a tragedy.
I've had a terrible case of writers block up until recently when I got...a prologue for a story I've written several times done. I'm hoping I can do more on it later, but...when inspiration doesn't strike you, it's kind of hard to produce quality, y'know? Which is probably why I wrote a lot of weird stories about a homicidal maniac named Nico Sylvatica who seems to be afraid of pineapples. Yeeeeah...
Dad said yes, I can go to Eugene and attend that tour date up there. I have the happy!
Does he not come to Colorado? My friend Rachel moved to Portland a couple years ago and my parents always tell me I should find and stalk Chuck...but...so far, no sighting him.
There seems to be a stalker theme in this family.
So, tell me about yourself. You're the only one I've talked to. You're special.
I am mad with the power!
no-one comes to Colorado.
No Chuck Palahniuk.
No Portishead.
Just a bunch of goddam Texan tourists
and their hot daughters
myself? er, um....
i've been in here less than two months but i'm here every day, chatting with this person or that person. i have a story in the WW, which you should check out (the WW, not my story) and submit too, i reiterate that because there are opportunities to get some great feedback from the best people in the world: other Chuck Fans.
aside from that i'm just another aspiring writer. not much else to say, except that i'm too old and i smoke too much and boy do i love the fuck out of these yummy Taquito's. =D
HM, I might jsut check out the Writers Workshop. I used to belong to fanfiction.net, but a little after it transformed into fictionpress.net I went through and deleted all my stories. Then my friend Heidi demanded I repost all the weird humor ones I did, so I got a new account and did that just so she could be satisfied...yeah, not so much interesting, I'll bet.
I've never been to Colorado. Wasn't one of the places we drove through when we moved from Massachusetts to Oregon. But hey, now the county I live in keeps getting flyers from the Aryan Nation and notices that we are the new headquarters of them. Back in the 20s it was a major place for the KKK to congregate, too. So that tells you something about my town.
Plus, if you've read Geek Love, it's the neighboring town to where the crazy guy shot them. Yippee! Everyone pretty much agrees we're one town, but we just have two names.
So how old is too old? I'm afraid I don't believe I will qualify as too old. Unless you mean too old to get those meals for children twelve and under. Damn fascists. *sob*
I am mad with the power!
i need to read Geek Love.
Holy cow, Aryan Nation? That would suck, i hate those racist fuckers although i'm perfectly bred for them (except no blond hair) cause i have no drop of anything but caucasian in me, but god there's nothing worse. i would move again if i were you. i saw enough of that shit in Texas.
i'm 27, which feels old to me, although just about everybody says 'you're still young!'
whatever.
Culturally Colorado is shit, just worthless, i never even know if an underground film is gonna make it here, especially to my town. As far as scenery, etc, it's heaven, which is why i don't move; i only have to drive about fifteen minutes to an hour to get see scenery like the link in my profile shows (shameless self-promotion). fishing, hiking, etc.
i was born in Portland, however, and later lived in Vancouver, WA for about six years until i was about 11, when i moved to Colorado. i've always said that if i HAD to leave Colorado i'd go to Oregon, and if i couldn't go there, i would just leave the country cause there's nowhere else worth going to.
I'm 17 and have lived in Oregon...about 12 years. The day we got here was the day I turned 6, really...but we tend to go by grade in school rather than age (my Rachelfriend and I).
I'll probably move to Portland with Rachel when I'm older. Unless I end up going to the local community college, maybe after this school year ends. It's a lovely city, small by a lot of standards...but...I like it.
There's exactly one person in my family lineage who wasn't white, and even that's not a FACT fact, so I'm not much harassed by all the people with swastikas and Confederate flags (or Confederate flags with swastikas sharpied on them), but most people are are afraid of me...I have no idea why, I just hear a lot that people think I am "scary". Someday I'd like to ask them why, but it's always a friend of a friend of a friend bullshit, sooo...I'm not sure why. Stupid people. but it cuts down harassment considerably. Yay!
Geek Love is a really good book. I reccomend it.
A lot of Oregonians hate Californians. And when they don't hate Californians, they hate Washington. Or both. Did you ever notice that? Once some guy in Portland attempted insult with my friends and I by saying we were from California. It was odd. And kind of funny.
I am mad with the power!
we don't like Californian's here in Colorado either. who does like them?
whack, though, i have the same thing with my lineage, i didn't mention it because it's not official, but apparently somewhere way back there one of my great-great-uncles or something knocked up a squaw and tried to pass off the child as one from his wife or something else stupid like that.
I assume the wife figured it out, though it'd be extrafunny if he could trick someone into thinking they gave birth.
Hm...I wonder if even Californians like Californians. My history teacher hates them with a passion. A funny one. When I was in Pacific Northwest history he always made it a point to mention California isn't and never will be a part of the Pacific Northwest. He also made up history as he went along. So everyone would have to wonder if he was lying to us or not. Because he did. Often.
I am mad with the power!
Oregon doesn't actually have a lot of history compared to other places (namely the east), but we DO have seven things named after a man who was stripped naked and wandered around Oregon. He went insane. That's right, seven things (e.g. a river, I think a lake, maybe a town) named after a naked crazy man.
I am mad with the power!
you can't say all that and not give us a name.
Willamut? Eugene?
John Day
See? Evasive action makes everyone want the truth. EVERYONE.
I am mad with the power!

Why would I care that you posted here, Manda?
Hm. So you're a welcoming whore, eh? I am no longer special. My life is, once again, a tragedy.
I am mad with the power!
so you two know each other, eh?
your life, a tragedy? not with an avatar like that.
Yeah, we met at a different message board a...year or so ago, I think.
Do you know what the avatar is from? If not, it's Lenore (by Roman Dirge). If so, then I just spent an excruuuutiating time typing out that horribly long sentence. My fingers are going to fall off. Sigh.
I am mad with the power!
what long sentence? you should type it again so i know what you're talking about
Nooooo!!
You're evil.
EVIL.
I am mad with the power!

All my life, I've been wanting to be called "youngster".
You've made my dreams come true.
Thank you, ever so.
I am mad with the power!

hey, you should be the first n00b in weeks to post more than once. come back in when you have an hour and respond to every single goddam thread you can find, and meet people, and let us know what you think about random meaningless shit.
i quit welcoming newbies cause they never come back in.
