Not only is 5 my favorite number; it is also the subject of one of my favorite works of art which was inspired by a poem written by of my favorite poets :
I Saw the Figure Five in Gold

I first saw this painting 30 years ago and the image remains fixed in my brain. I think this is when the number 5 became my favorite; the infinite depths of the painting make it hypnotic. You just have to kind of "five" out with it. So bethklein5, you have immediately jumped to the "favorites" part of brain.

There are only 5 Golden Tickets.
I adore william carlos williams... particularly the plums in the icebox one.... This Is Just To Say
i like the five painting... and definitely the poem -- great mental image from that. hadnt seen the poem before -- im fairly sure i saw the artwork in person. New York is the city where i feel most vibrant, so i visit as often as possible (doesnt hurt that my brother and two best friends live there, providing me with lots of pullout couches for crashing and partners for great conversation). been to the metropolitan museum on several occasions. im glad my "5" served to trigger a positive reaction in you Smile Big

and yes, there are only five golden tickets -- and somehow, looking around this place, i feel as though i am one of the lucky few awarded passage into the house of wonders Smile

let's just hope i dont get attacked by trained squirrels....
Wow, Oompa Loompas. Numerology. You people aren't supposed to get all freaky weird like that on the noobs!! Please. Hold off on the High Wicca stuff.

Hello Beth, I'm vigorous the talking doggy. Everyone's favorite. Benji, Lassie, Rin tin tin? Corporate sellouts and fakes. Plus, they're all dead. Old Yeller I could believe in, but he's gone too. Me? I'm the vigorous one and that means full of life. In fact, I'm such a lively doggy that I'm a stimulus junkie and an insomnomaniac. I drink hard colas like water...do coke straight from the can....I mix my kibble with coffee beans! You must pet me so i can nap. Welcome to The Cult.
LOL i was rather enjoying the freaky weirdness... it makes me feel at home Wink

Hi vigorous the talking doggy! are you even better than gaspode the talking dog? does anyone here even GET that reference? LOL *slowly inches the caffeine away from you in hopes you wont notice* Hmmm.... ill assume that's meant to be completely a completely innocent request for a pet and *petpet* lol

And gaspode.... isn't that the cigar-smoking pooch with a poop fetish?

Nope, that's Triumph the Insult Comic Dog. And that "for me to poop on!" line does get old after the 5 millionth time hearing it.

i think i'll pass, thanks *grin*

Gaspode is the talking dog from the Discworld books... a series of bizarre, uncategorize-able (tho i guess humorous fantasy would be closest?) books written about events on the discworld -- a disc resting on the back of four elephants who in turn stand on the back of a giant turtle named a'tuin (hmmm i may have misplaced the ' ). They were written by Terry Pratchett, and they are wonderful books, imho.... people tend to love em or hate em.

Man, I forgot about the trained squirrels. Thanks for the link to the Williams; I'd completely forgotten about that one as well. I think I need to spend some time rereading WCW. Did he do one on trained squirrels?

My older kid is at school in New York. She spends a lot of time at the Museums. Look for a very, very tall, lithe young woman who looks like Uma Thurman (herself a very tall, lithe person). Tell her she needs to call home more often. Even if it does turn out to be Uma, I'm sure Uma's mom would appreciate a call too.

Oh I'm just managing to deal with my post trauma memories of the trained squirrels and then you have to haul out the Happy Fun Ball. Have you people no mercy?

Not sure whether WCW wrote anything about trained squirrels. I cant recall anything of the sort, but ill check it out and pass it on if i find anything.......

This is Just To Say

I have eaten
the squirrels
that were in
the icebox

and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast

Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold.
