Witty title
So, here it goes. I'm fairly new to the forums, though I've lurked around the site for quite sometime. Living in a small, closed-minded town in South Carolina, not many people understand my cynical outlook on society, or my misanthropic philosophies when dealing with it. That's when I stumbled across Chuck's books. I started out by reading the book for Fight Club when our Philosophy Club (of which I am the secretary) decided to do a lecture on the philosophies contained within the book and the movie. From there, I went on to read Choke and Diary, and finished both within a month. Of course, having 4 Philosophy classes doesnt allow much time for recreational reading when there's Plato, Aristotle, Bergson, Kant, and many others, to read for a required grade. As if you havent guessed it already, I am a Philosophy major. I'm also 21 years old, and go by the name Chris. It's painfully dull, but this is my life, thus far.
So, there it is.
Hello & welcome.

I'm surprised you're reading Bergson. Do you get to choose between Analytic and Continental philosophy in the States? I was under the impression it was difficult to escape the Analytic stuff over there.

I chose Continnental as a Philosophy elective, though the Analytic stuff is required. Luckily, I've done my time in the Logical prison, and survived the Kant class well enough, and have just two more semesters to drudge through before going onto grad school. If I had to do it over again, I probably would take this class again, but I'd definitely pay more attention to Bergson than I have. Complicated, much?

I'm thinking Neitzche, Existentialism, something with Metaphysics, and I wouldnt mind studying Kant further. I love/hate Kant; I despise him because I have yet to find a way to contradict his philosophy, yet I have the utmost respect for him because his philosophy is so pure and logical. I'm also going to bypass the MA program and go for the PhD instead, since it's the same thing as going through 7 years for a MA and PhD, and I can get it done in half the time.
witty response
There is hope, but not for us.
This reminds me...I feel like "witty title" is likely the most commonly used thread title on internet forums...and yet, I also can't help but feel that it is a more ironic title than an appropriate one for. "Witty title" seems to carry with it some degree of witty intent (I can not think of a witty title...but if I write 'witty title,' that will be witty!)...thereby making it a bit ironic, as it is so commonly used and thus, not witty.
Sorry...I didn't mean to sound critical. I'm guilty of said offense myself. Just an observation.
