um
hello?
I'm a new(ly registered lurker)bie, I guess.
I always feel awkward posting in intro threads, but feel obliged to do so anyways.
I'm seventeen, I live in southern california.
I've been a voracious reader my whole life.
I didn't discover palahniuk until... last year? I think?
As far as other books go, I have a weak spot for political satires (think A Confederacy of Dunces, A Clockwork Orange, Pastoralia) and ridiculously cheesey fantasies (think The Princess Bride, The Neverending Story.)
I also draw. and play guitar. poorly.
Hello RachelBird.
Welcome to the cult and enjoy.
I believe I've read everything except Fugitives and Refugees.
And I am definately looking foward to Pygmy. Not just because it looks like it'll be right up my alley, but I'm also excited to be able to read a palahniuk book the day it comes out.

I think instead of going to school that day, I will go to borders or barnes and noble and by the book and just sit there and read it all day until I haft to go home. They have a nice little resturant in there so I can read it and eat lunch.
oh and btw, Welcome!

I'm lucky enough to have a barnes and nobles within easy walking distance from my school. I like your way of thinking, and I like your avatar.
Then again, my teachers are all used to me reading in class. Or at least, they have all learned not to take my book away from me when I'm reading in class.
My chemistry teacher once asked if I was feeling okay in all seriousness, because he noticed over a week had passed and I was still reading the same book.
Thanks, Only 4 more days. I am trying to not get hit by a bus.

4 more days?

nothing is as perfect as you can imagine it.
I was talking about watchmen because she commented on my avatar.

it's cool. But yea I have been waiting for this film for a bit and I gotta say even though the book is a graphic novel it is one of my top favorite books. So I am really excited for the movie.

graphic novels get a whole lotta love here, and many a cultist is tugging at his/her leash for this release
rachel, welcome to the cult. what other authors do you currently love? what authors over the years have you fallen out of love with? oh, and how did you come across the cult..
friend told you about it, a google search, or a link in a bookjacket ?

play hard, like it's work to be done.
I know, its nice seeing a literary circle where comics get some attention too.
I'm really afraid that the movie is going to suck, but I'm seeing it at midnight anyways. I think best case scenerio it will be like V for Vendetta- not necessarily a bad movie, but still nothing compared to the book.
Let's see... other authors I like? Well I was on a big Kurt Vonnegut kick recently, I adore Ray Bradbury, I thought Dave Eggers had a really fun writing style too. Oh, Alan Moore of course. I haven't read everything by him, but so far V for Vendetta is definately my favorite.
Authors I've fallen out of love with is harder. It would be mostly those books that changed my life as a kid, because it's always so disappointed when you go back and re-read them and see how cheesey they are. But even in those cases, I can still appreciate them for what they used to mean to me, you know?
I'm pretty sure I found the cult through google, but I don't actually remember anymore.
Interesting that you consider A Clockwork Orange a political satire. I think it is, but doesn't necessarily remain restricted to such a category.
"They sold you hippies grunge, hip hop, now liberty activism."

Giggan- I understand what you mean. I was just throwing out a few examples of books that I like, but A clockwork orange is definately more than just that.
and nathaniel, I'll keep an eye out for it. The comic book stores around here are all pretty limited though, so I don't know how successful I'll be.
Hey Rachel!

hello! I'm pretty new aswell.
my favorite color is orange today...
I'm bad at small talk.
Cool. Welcome.
Maybe if I just drink half, I'll be half buzzed for half of the time
Who's the mastermind behind that little line?
With that kind of rationale man I got half a mind
To have another half a glass of wine
Hello and Welcome
Next time you are in Borders check out Will Christopher Baer, Kiss Me Judas.
I read Pastoralia last month and I loved it. Speaking of short stories Knockemstiff by Donald Ray Pollock is just as enjoyable.

it's not a comic, it's a novel.
i met dave eggers once. he was cool and arrogant and kind of shy. i talked to him about the 'where the wild things are' movie because he wrote the screenplay for it.
What did he smell like?
i almost answered that...
Derek, that was awesome!
Good coffee is like drinking Rock and Roll.
nathaniel- I didn't know alan moore wrote a novel. Now I'm curious.
Barca boy- I'll add them to my list of things to check out. Have you heard the song The Barber's Unhappiness by the Matches? I heard it before I read the book, and it made it initely more funny.
big s- That's exactly how I imagine he would be. Thinks that he's a genius yet very modest about it.
you'd think he'd be a good public speaker because he's so good with words but he wasn't at all. he ran his words together and mumbled a bit during his reading.

He sounds very endearing.

and you've read which books by him? and your favorite?
his newest coming out sounds like it's going to be a good political satire.
