The new kid in town that MIGHT be a Vampire
Hey guys,
Thought I would say hello, perusing the boards you seem to be generally nice people.
Since I was a kid I wanted to be a writer but procrastination got the better of me. I don't have any illusions of making it big or being great but I think if I work on it as a craft I could eventually convey some funny and profound things. I would like to join the writer's workshop after working on my grammar and other basic things.
My favorite books by Chuck are Haunted and his collection of essays. One essay describes how he and a female friend dressed up in cartoonish animal suits for the day to gauge peoples reactions. I thought it might be cool to live life dressed like that, totally defying conventional reality. But then this was before the whole furry craze came to light, giving it an entirely different connotation.
Getting to know someone I find it best to find out what they like, especially the weird things they like. So, some of my favorite authors are Robert Heinlien, Robert Hamburger, Robert E. Howard, Dostoyevsky, Mark Twain. Being into eastern mysticism some of the poets I've liked are Rumi and Ryokan. I like studio Ghibli films, actually one of the main reasons for wanting to marry my current wife is that she understood the undercurrent behind the Ghibli movies.
Anyway, that's all for now,
Have a good day

Yes, thanks

I got yo back!
Vampires? You mean like Twilight? Do you like Twilight?
So...We are still going to die. Right?
I love vampires but Twilight is impossible to love. Haven't read the book but got half way through the movie before shutting it off. The same motif is used in a new show called the vampire diaries which is also pretty painfull to watch.
Another series I refuse to get sucked into is Harry Potter.
"Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing." (Robert E. Howard - The Tower of the Elephant)
who would win in a fight? Buffy or Blade?
actually a better match would be Vampire Hunter D vs. Blade.
So...We are still going to die. Right?
Bela Lugosi Dracula VS Gary Oldman Dracula!
i couldn't find a good match for lestat, plus Anne Rice sucks, so i give up.
So...We are still going to die. Right?
The original Buffy was pretty hot so I think Blade would simply quickly incompasitare her.
"Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing." (Robert E. Howard - The Tower of the Elephant)
he would...what?
So...We are still going to die. Right?
it's a mixture of Incapacitate and Stare!
Sorry -tate, writing on a phone. Won't happen again.
"Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing." (Robert E. Howard - The Tower of the Elephant)
but it did!
So...We are still going to die. Right?
...or did it??
Dun Dun Dunnnn!
Your face won't happen again.

Happy hunting!
What I have shown you is reality. What you remember... that is the illusion.
You can't match the same character against the same character. That would be like saying Who would win in a fight, me or me?
So yes, even in Adam West's Batman vs Frank Miller's Batman it would be purely circumstantial on either account of who won.
I LOVE FUCKING TREES
and I was pretty sure you were going to be stumped.
Buffy vs. Edward Cullen.

You've obviously never read/seen Fight Club.

Yeah. Pretty hard self-ass-fuckin' thar.

Not the same. That was a one body fight. I'm talking like the same CHARACTER fighting the same CHARACTER only they are in two different bodies.

Well, guess what? I AM! Because I'm a rebel, baby! I don't follow the "rules" given to me by The Man!
I got 16 Draculas and they are all going to square off against each other!
And it is up to YOU, the people of the Cult, to decide!
plus, it was surprisingly hard to actually find 16 different people that played Dracula, You'd think there'd be a hundred of 'em. So I'm doing it just so that research I made won't go to waste.
Don't forget The Count from Sesame Street.

YES! You like Haunted. Me too.
Welcome!

ah, never mind.

Lehahi: not sure if your being serious but definetely many respectable people like the books. I tried the first one and couldn't get into it. Also judging from the movies I do not like how it starts off kind of light hearted and silly and then gets dark.

Where in Ontario?
Unless you mean Ontario, California...to which I say, nevermind.

Why thank you, oh considerate one. I think I'm going to like you.

Books are way better. The early ones are notably less dark than the later, but by the second or third book, it's getting serious. No dilly dallying. The movies are money machines leeching off the tweens.... and off of me. >.>
The real problem with the movies is that the studios flat out refused to let Terry Gilliam make them. Not only did Gilliam want more than anything to direct these movies, but Rowling also pointed to him as the director that she most wanted to make the films. The studios refused, and it was devastating to Gilliam, and, i imagine, his fans and fans of the series.
To think how much better each and every one of the films would've been had Gilliam been allowed to make them is very troubling. They wouldn't have just been movies about books, they would've been real works of cinematic genius, better than the Lord of the Ring movies [and i only compare because those seem to be the highbar standard for adapting fantasy novels].
Instead they've had a string of shit directors and the films've suffered.
If Gilliam had been allowed to do any of the movies I would have been there to see them.
Biffb: Hi, I'm in Brantford, it's about an hour west of Toronto. Where abouts are you?
To give you an idea what's like here, they used the downtown as the setting for the Silent Hill movie. Also proud to be the sexual assault capital of Ontario.

Gilliam would be one respectable person who likes Potter. Have also heard Stephen King and others speak highly of it.
What I found grating about the first episode was that he was handed everything on a silver platter without any effort. Oh Mr. Potter your famous without even knowing it! Your the best wizard in the universe without even trying! You have a million dollars in the bank!
Compare that to the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe where they discover this magical world that is fascinating but also intimidating and dangerous.
Anyone read the Earth Sea books? It is the same premise as HP but a lot better written (in my opinion).

I'd hardly say he did nothing. He lost his parents who gave their life to protect him from the most powerful evil in the world. This, in turn, caused the disappearance of the greatest evil the world had seen. And part of the struggle for him is that he's placed on this plateau and given a level of fame that he doesn't understand or know how to deal with. Imagine turning ten and discovering that you and other people can do magic. Then discovering that your parents died to save your life. Then, to top it all off, every person who can do magic knows your name and wants to meet you.
Anyway, Harry Potter is a great series. I'd say the first three or four are a bit dull and mostly exposition, but the last three are fantastic. And she becomes a better writer as the series goes on, which, i think, is partly why the latter half is so much better than the initial ones.
Any, yeah, if Gilliam had done the movies, they would've been great.
My balls are very small.

He didn't do anything, those were the circumstances he was born into. Also it is not much of a struggle when he is a savant at anything he tries, like qwuidich.
I have not read the books so it is really not fair to critique them. I'm sure there is much more to them or they wouldn't be so popular. So it's kind of a willfully ignorant predjudice I enjoy.

True, but Harry Potter is 100x better than Twilight.

Shit, I'm in Kitchener.
Why must we speak of twilight or harry potter in here? Shouldn't this be our sanctuary from vamp teens and wiz kids?

Who would write a book about vampires that go to highscool and sparkle like my little ponies? If you answered a Mormon housewife you would be correct.
