Sources for "Rant"
Hey all, I'm a new member to this site and recently read my first Chuck Palahniuk novel which just so happened to be "The Oral Biography of Buster Casey" Definitely blew my mind and a friend and I constantly discuss it and delve deep into the theories of time travel. I've been a fan of Chuck's work and have discussed it with friends but it wasn't until I read "Rant" that I became an instant enthusiast!
Anyways I did have a question. Since I've become so fascinated with "Rant" I was wondering if anyone knew of any sources Mr. Palahniuk used for the writing of "Rant". I would like to read the books, articles, websites that he may have used in the research for his novel. Time travel and philosophy has always been a big interest of mine. Hopefully someone will oblige me!
Happy reading!
Josh
Welcome
You might have better luck with your question in the Rant subforum, which you can find here: http://chuckpalahniuk.net/forum/1000281 .
Look at this girl, she is on the ball. All that lurking paid off.
Im note sure of this was discussed in any previous forums, but I can tell you that Party Crashing was a real thing and did happen for quote a while. Not so much anymore though

Tuffy the Dump Truck may rarely increase the risk of a heart attack or stroke. The risk may be greater if you have heart disease or increased risk for heart disease (for example, due to smoking, family history of heart disease, or conditions such as high blood pressure or diabetes), or with longer use. Tuffy should not be taken right before or after heart bypass surgery. Also, Tuffy may infrequently cause serious (rarely fatal) bleeding from the stomach or intestines. This effect can occur without warning symptoms at any time while taking Tuffy. Older adults may be at higher risk for this effect. (See also Precautions and Drug Interactions sections.) Stop taking Tuffy and get medical help right away if you notice any of the following rare but serious side effects: bloody or black/tarry stools, persistent stomach/abdominal pain, vomit that looks like coffee grounds, chest/jaw/left arm pain, shortness of breath, unusual sweating, weakness on one side of the body, sudden vision changes, slurred speech. Ask your doctor if Tuffy is right for you.
I was one of the people interviewed for the book. He changed our names obviously to "protect" us. I can tell you that Buster used to always tell us stories about seeing flashes - that he assumed were glimpses into past and future. Though we thought he was having seizures.
I never did get rabies though.
BTW - is this not the ugliest Palahniuk book cover ever?

The dog does look happy though

Like, for the time travel part? Or the giving-yourself-rabies part?
I'm not sure there's really a manual for either of those things.
