this is something i thought i'd never be doing, posting on a thread, even saying that makes me feel like an uber-nerd, but here we are. i've just gone on a chuck bender and read all his books in a matter of a few weeks, loving every one of them, perhaps 'lullaby' in particular, although i have a few pages of 'diary' left to go and am dying to see how it ends. i'm doing a writing course and am a full-time graphic designer by trade, on holidays at the moment, located in sydney australia. that's an introduction, i guess, so it's done, my first post, ever, anywhere. what happens now?...

Nicole! thanks for your sweet reply, I am having serious logon problems hence I am formerly known as Interstellarmongrelnymph and am now Prensa... but I guarantee you I am one and the same. Working on the problems too, by the way. I read the Death trilogy but never really got into Sandman because I missed too much in the beginning and felt I would never be able to catch up. To date, my favorite comic is Transmetropolitan, followed closely by Sin City et. al. and then JTHM. I don't do that much comic reading although currently am in the middle of The Watchmen, highly recommendable...
Do tell please of how and when and why you dicovered Chuck...

Nicole: Hi, welcome and congrats on your first ever thread and post... Trust me, after a while it gets normal - there is absolutely nothing to feel wierd about.
Oh, and a lot of people feel funny about reading all of Chuck's books in like a week's time because when your done with all of them, you just sit on a chair blinking, thinking What now? Well, you have your full time work and your classes, but keep in mind that all kinds of Chuck fans come here and recomd all kinds of authors, and so does Chuck. The Contortionists Handbook is a great example of Palahniuk fans' required reading, if you so desired (& you can order it from amazon with discounts and have it sent to Australia, and all through this site!).
Well, welcome and I hope that we see you around.

Prensa Taladradora: Hi, I'm Johnathan. Have you seen the new trailer for the Hell Boy movie? It is lookin pretty good.

JKabol: Cheers for your reply. This site IS great, yeah I'm already starting to feel normal about posting threads. Prensa wrote me some nice stuff, too, so settling in nicely. I know what you mean about the 'What Now' feeling, re-reading I guess. I'm reading some Martin Amis and a comic called 'Notes from a Defeatist' by Joe Sacco at the moment, I will definately give 'The Contortionists Handbook' a try, will look for it today even! Let you know how I go. Did you read the book club books, the 2 they recommended? 'The Man Who Fell In Love With The Moon' sound cool, going to try and track that one down too. Amazon's great though, that'll be my last resort if I get fed up looking. Going to try and submit some writing too, you ever done that here? Well, guess I'll see tou around - happy new year.

Welcome aboard! Do tell us a story. If you have any questions feel free to email or message me anytime, although I am still finding my own way here, and this was also my first real forum!

You will find many of the others to be very helpful, don't mind their rough language at times.

Aloha

Mahayr: Cheers for that, I will, I'm actually going to try and get a few bits nd pieces posted thru the workshop, have you put anything in there? It's a great forum - my first, but liking it a lot.

JKabol: Hmm, looks like i can't get 'the contortinists handbook' in the shop over here (aust) will try amazon. picked up the bookclub book though, the douglas coupland one, was eyeing it up anyhow. ta for the tip though!

Hey Nicole,

Ive just ordered my first douglas coupland novels 2day, same with Will Baer's 2 novels, cause Craig Clevenger said to haha

A lot of the books that I search for are never in any shop; barnes&Nobel, BAM, Walden Books, Lorenzen & Company. Fiction books make such a small portion in the market that many stores carry very little of the more extreme publications, like the Contortionist HB or Kiss Me Judas or anything Hempel

My biggest help in searching for HC editions has been Amizon Used Section, because they are out of print, but there are stores all over this country that just have stacks of whatever books stockpiled in a corner that they need to find homes for. The reason that I like HCz is because I like them to last and remain intact for more than a few reads. I have purchased Invisible Monsters 3 times; I have purchased Survivor once.

As for the writer's workshop, affectionately called WW, do not be intimidated. Read some submissions. Read 10 or more and critic-analyse what you read. Its just like posting on this thread - it will become easier with doing.

Also try looking into Chuck's Workshop

Best of luck and let me know if I can be of help

Kabol

I'm fine no gossip, I don't get out much, new job, work overnight, sleep all day, go online when I am awake, TV sucks, drink beer, today it's Newcastle, ever hear of it? I am eating pickles right now, and pretzel sticks.

Newcastle? No. Maybe we don't have it yet (in Australia I mean - we're always a bit behind media-wise). What's your beer of choice. Drinking a Stella Artois at the moment myself, mmm, tasteeeee.

Usually I like Pabst Blue Ribbon which is made in Milwaukee, but lately I've been craving a darker beer, Newcastle comes from England and it is very yummy. Its not new though, although I could see why it wouldn't have made its way all the way down there. You like it in Australia?

Ive been drinking New Castle for many years. There were dollar pints of Honey Brown last night, so I had 5 or 6 dollars worth.
& I have never heard of Stella Artois before, but then again, I have never been to Australia

Oh and as for that tatooed pierced newborn alien thingy, I really like the black eyes and blue nosse ring

Oh, yeah...ey, no gossip here either

Dollar Pints!!!! Argh, my jealousy rages!!! Stella's good, it's a pale lager, Belgian. Actually went to a Belgian Beer Cafe the other night and God did they have a lot to choose from, they're beer mad, I think everyone must have their own brewery over there or something. A fair percentage was brewed by monks in monastaries (funnily enough) too, knew they were upto something, it's the quiet ones you have to watch...
Yeah Sydney's been good to me, I like it, it's very laid back, great weather and all that, but then I've never been overseas and there's heaps I'd like to check out. All my family is in Scotland and England, so I'd like to go over there, Paris has always seemed really alluring to me, I'd love to visit all of Europe really. That's one thing over here, we don't have much in the way of castles and historic art galleries or anything, I'd love to see that side of things. (There's a joke here that there's more culture in a tub of yoghurt than the whole country). Are you two based in the US? You know what I'd like to see over there, and this is sooo touristy and cliched, but the Grand Canyon. It looks incredible on film but things are always that much better in person aren't they? Canada looks gorgeous too. Have you travelled much? Have you guys submitted any writing to the site? God I'm writing a whole novel here, sorry, hehe. Longest thread ever. Hmm, it seems I really AM getting into this thread writing shit, it's addictive!

Hey, I just saw yer response to my "emperor thread" story...
when yer five you don't hang on to pain. Well, not dogshit pain anyhow, but I do think it was my first encounter with mortification, however fleeting, because I still see the whole thing clear in my mind. Also it deterred me from showing off, so I kind of learned a lesson. I would love to see you post a story there, have you read about what Mirkah is planning to do with the thread? http://www.chuckpalahniuk.net/community/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7414

The cut off date for submissions is 1-21 I think. That thread is what got me to sign up here, I started reading it and got so inspired by the stories that it made me want to share. Have you read the whole thing? there's some brilliant stuff hidden in the corners...

Also, just in case you don't know, you can edit and/or delete your posts, for example the first one in the emperor thread, I don't even know if that was supposed to go in that thread, I can't find any reference to Balderdash...
This can help you not have to post twice in a row, just go back in and change or add whatever you want.
If you do know this and just choose not to...nevermind.

Ah cheers, Prensa, I didn't know I could alter my posts once I'd submitted them. Yeah I've submitted three stories, but only one seems to have surfaced so far. Not thrilled with any of them, totally, just good to put some pieces out to strangers for honest comment. how's everything been? has your new job been ok? is that at the halloween store, or was that your old job? more importantly, is the beer still ok dammit!?

The beer is fiiiiine babe, Thanx for asking.

Aside from the workshop stuff though, you should really post one or more stories in the emperor thread itself. the deadline has been moved up to the 16th, so that's like five days or less, depending on which timezone Mirkah refers to.

My current new job (and I've had sooooo many) is lame and has nothing to do with halloween, unfortunately. But it pays the bills eh?

so you figured out how to edit? gooood.

P.S. I just put a new story up in emperor... check it out, and then post yer own. This goes for everyone reading these words.

I will look for your submissions. Yes, I have posted three - two for Chuck's Workshop and one in the WW (but I am not sure if that one is up yet). Do participate there, the lessons are an incredible gift, straight from Chuck himself! And he is also going to answer 10 questions per lesson!

You will really come to love it here as you get to know everyone. I am not very vocal in public, but do feel free to message or email me anytime.

You will also find all the moderators very encouraging and helpful. They work hard to make the Cult a success, and have done an amazing job of it.

Happy trails...
